Windows XP Install on SATA

Thread Starter
Hello,

I have just built a reasonable PC, AMD Athlon 64 3000+ And a K8V SE Deluxe Mobo. I have a 120GB Maxtor HD. I try to install windows and it does not pick up the hard drive. Theres something about the sata drivers and what not, What i don't get is, where do i install this stuff? where do i get all these things. I'm so confused and annoyed with myself lol.

Help would be great.

Your mobo should have come with floppy disks for the SATA drivers. Try inserting those at boot. Also, try going into your BIOS and see if your SATA drives are activated.

Thanks for making a concise, intelligent first post, and filling out your User CP. Welcome to the forums.

During the blue screen when windows initially attempts to load onto your system, it will ask if you want to install 3rd party drivers "press F6", this is when you would press F6 and run the drivers from either a floppy or CD. I'll look for linkage to the right sata drivers

I've tried that before, but it seems that it does not respond when i click on f6 =S Seriously, BUT would it pick up if there was another medium (which would be the drivers in this case) in any other drive? perhaps that why? Xavier Thanks a lot, You're helping a tonne =D

Generally, you should be able to boot from the ASUS CD that came with the motherboard. Once you'll do so, you'll end up in a DOS environment where you can format a floppy disk, and make a diskette with the drivers.

Boot from that CD, make the floppy, then remove the CD, and start the Windows installation. Immediately after Windows install starts, you'll see on the bottom of the screen that you'll need to hit F6 for "SCSI and RAID drivers". At first, nothing seems to happen, but later it'll ask for the diskette. Just hit F6 and let Windows do its thing. It'll show up later during the process.

However, for a single drive, I never had to load RAID drivers. Are you sure you have the correct settings in the BIOS? (controller set to SATA, and something like IDE Simulation).

Hmmm.. I'm at a bit of a loss then. When I installed Windows on my K8V I remember having to do F6...and it worked, but my wife's rig has a floppy.

***EDIT
