So I have ideas for a custom desk I want to build and I want to model it out in something like Sketchup. I'm having so many issues with Sketchup though. I tried to make some components which is fine but when I try to piece them together there is no way to snap them together... I can move them close enough to get going but it bothers me. Is there some better free software I could be using?
I'll chronicle the build through this thread once I finally get started.
Update: 2012/10/04
Preliminary sketch (The Cat Free Desk):
Overview: (Base is 55" x 30" and the side panels are 25" high. Base is 1" thick and the panels are 1/2" thick.)

Wire channel created in the back with offset side panels so there is no way for my cats to get back into the channel:

I created a base for the "floating" keyboard tray. A panel underneath the keyboard tray. The keyboard tray will have sliders mounted on the bottom so they can't be seen: (Keyboard tray will be approx 42 wide")

The opening on the left side is so you can see the window on my 810 Switch. The tower opening is 10" wide so it will fit pretty tight and my cats won't be able to get in.
