Thanks for all the kind comments guys,

Despite scouring the internet I cannot find 2.0mm PCB Spacer Stands

The reason I need a 2.0mm PCB spacer stand is to attach the raid card to the back of the motherboard tray.

Here are some photos to give you a better idea of what I'm talking about.

The red circled screws are M3 (3.0 - 3.2mm) screws which can be undone and the 3.2mm PCB spacer stand attached.

The circles in black are for the cache vault NVRAM module that screws directly to the PCB so cannot be used. (its on its way and should be here next week).

The blue circle is a 2.0 mm (M2) hole that requires a 2mm PCB Adhesive Standoff.

The next two pictures show the other location of the 2.0mm (m2) hole that requires a 2mm PCB Adhesive standoff;

Oh and before someone asks, where the circled blue holes are you cannot have metal spacers or screws (like for motherboard tray stands) touching them as its a 2 layer PCB and will short the board.

Places I've checked for the 2mm PCB Standoff

ebay
RS Online
Element 14 (Farnell)
Mouser
Alibaba.com (found some but they wanted me to order 2000+ and wouldnt make just one or two)
Jaycar
Toby Electronics
Crest Technology (they do not sell to the public, only commercial quantities)

If anyone knows a place I can buy 2.0mm PCB stands I would be forever in your debt,

In the meantime I'll order some acrylic and get the ball rolling Now I've never worked on acrylic before, but I do own a rotary dremel and lots of different bits so how hard can it be right? biggrin.gif

Thanks for reading it all smile.gif In the past few days I've gone through it and realized many of my ideas for this build have failed more than they have succeeded frown.gif .

Now that I've have learnt from my mistakes, I think towards the end of 2013/2014 when the 780gtx / i7 8 core cpu's come out I'll do another build of this caliber in a caselabs case with far less mistakes.

I forgot to post some pics of one of the new ssd's so here they are :

I will upload pics of all 8 next to each other once I have sorted out the raid card and the other various issues over the next 4-5 days (second PSU, fixing the tubing, etc)

Hi All,

I need some help with tracking down a metric screw size as I have found the perfect sized screw for mounting the raid card to the acrylic.

These screws can typically be found on Nvidia graphics cards to screw on/support the factory heatsink and fan assembly.

I have lots of them I have collected over the years of water cooling and also so I can put cards back together for warranty.

However these screws are about 6-10mm too short.

Pictures of the screws:

Does anyone know the metric size of these screws M1 / M 0.6 / M 1.4 etc?

I've looked all over online and seen many threads asking the same question but never the answer. (Checked EVGA;s forums , overclock.net, extreme systems etc.)

I have emailed Gainward to see if they will give me a response but I doubt they will even reply.

Sorry for the multiple posts but I wanted to show you guys this sample product that I received from a BP distributor today.

It's a bitspower VR power controller. and can be used to dim lights / fans / anything power related.

I'm not sure how I'm going to incorporate it into the build but it certainly is an interesting product. Perhaps I can come up with a way to use it to dim the lights.

In other news I'm up to the stage of ordering the acrylic (or plexiglass). I'm after some opinions as to which color, options as follows :

1) Dark smokey grey acrylic
2) UV blue acrylic
3) Clear acrylic
4) Solid Blue acrylic

My LSI Cache Vault and FastPath software shipped from LSI today via Fedex overnight priority. It should arrive Monday and also includes 40cm and 60cm long twin axial multipath SAS breakout leads. I have the blue sleeving and heatshrink ready and waiting to sleeve them up.

I'm pretty sure that I'm going to sell my current ram and swap over to 4 x 8gb sticks instead of 8 x 4gb sticks.

Not being able to run my ram at 2133mhz is really bugging me and seems to be a real limitation of this board. My RIVE in my old pc (now my girlfriends PC) has 32gb of 2133mhz ram in all 8 slots, quad sli 580's and a 4.8ghz overclock on the 3930K

The options I'm considering are :

1) Dominator® Platinum Series — 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR3 DRAM 2400MHz C10 Memory Kit (CMD32GX3M4A2400C10)

2) Dominator® Platinum with Corsair Link Connector — 1.65V 32GB Dual Channel DDR3 Memory Kit (CMD32GX3M4A2133C9)

3) G.Skill [ RipjawsZ] F3-17000CL9Q2-32GBZH (4Gx8)

I'm still looking for mounting options for the raid card, a friend at work suggested today I mount it using 4 x small acrylic cylinders in a square acrylic box.

More updates tomorrow smile.gif
