It will be fine or my house on fire ?

Hi all my name is stephen and I live in ireland.

This is my first post and really need help.

Found the AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 955 Black Edition "125W Edition" 3.20GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail [HDZ955FBGMBOX]
on overclockers uk website today for 60 pounds (GREAT PRICE) BOUGHT IT.
Paired it with a Asus M5A78L-M LE AMD 760G (Socket AM3+) motherboard ( shipped within a hour all is well).

Then I seen the Supports CPU up to 95 W on a review. OMG
Ok 45 pounds can use it with my Athlon.

Done some looking around and found the Gigabyte 78LMT-USB3 AMD 760G (Socket AM3+) that supports 125w cpus
40 pound not bad, good motherboard.Ordered it and overclockers sent it .

Pew?> all is well.

Went to work and came home and looked for a review of the 78lmt-usb3 .OMG FU.KK .Only supports FX at 125w not the phenom.

Reading posts since some say it will work fine, some say it will at reduced speeds and some say it will fry my motherboard and my house will go on fire. The cheaper model the
Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2P with rev 3.1 works with the 125w phenom.
The T78LMT-USB3 his is a 4-1 phase motherboard it should work ????

Any help please.

sorry if this is posted already or in the wrong thread.

i wouldnt trust the motherboard to be honest. i doubt it will catch your house on fire, but it has a chance of frying your other components. i would use it with your athlon for the time being, and try to get it sold. using the money from the sale and some extra, i would get something like this:

I contacted Gigabyte about the LMT-USB3 and for whatever reason, the 125W Phenom II processors didn't pass their validation tests. I'm going to see if I can get them to redo those tests. Until then, the LMT-S2P would be fine as long as it's a rev 3.1. The ASUS has VRM protection and wouldn't have burned your house down, but wouldn't have properly supported a 965.

I saw the same thing and panicked myself with my ASUS M5A78L-M LX PLUS. The Asus website says 95w but the actual manual for the motherboard and on Newegg it says 125w. I have had the system off since I saw that and have been waiting for a response from Asus just to clear this up. I have had a 965BE in it myself and I didnt have any problems running it 24/7 since I put it together so im assuming it is fine. Mabe you can try calling Asus for some info on it?

Is the

Asus M5A78L-M LE AMD 760G the best bet over the Gigabyte 78LMT-USB3 AMD 760G .?

I have the same board but I'd recommend you getting the LMT-S2P (rev 3.1) since it'll handle the 965 just fine.

I currently have my quad undervolted and have a fan running over the VRMs.
