Thread Starter
I've seen these mentioned around here a lot in gaming monitor threads, but I don't think I've seen a direct comparison between them.

Are both of these IPS monitors suitable for gaming? I know the Dell was tested to have almost no input lag, but which of them would overall feel more responsive factoring in pixel response times and such?

They're cheap for IPS monitors - are they crippled in some way compared to most IPS monitors?

Is there a better bet for $200ish for a gaming monitor now?

These are eIPS and use 6-bit + AFRC (though working well, so effectively pretty much like 8-bit color in practice), sRGB coverage and not wide gamut, 1080p, no 3D of any kind, minimal features, etc., unlike some of the expensive IPS options.

VS239H was tested at prad.de. You're probably looking for this section. They measured 1ms input lag. The response times there are pretty bad, but that's the VS239H model and not the VS239H-P. The -P model has the Asus "Trace Free" (pixel overdrive) controls, so you can ratchet up the speed to match the U2312HM. Or go faster, at the expense of more overshoot artifacts. Or go slightly slower, to pretty much eliminate overshoot. So either should be fine for gaming, unless you're relatively sensitive to ghosting and play games with jerky movement.

The Dell's stand is a lot better. The Asus just has tilt, but it does have VESA mounting holes. If the price is similar, you probably want the Dell for the better stand.
