How hot does it get at load? If it was idling at 48 I would say that is the problem, what does it idle at now? And what are your load temps. Its probably all because you dont have a good cooler.

Right now it idles at 50 and on load is about 60. I think it a my cooler and the fact my cpu at stock is 1.475v anything lower and it is not stable on stock.
you and me are about the same, LOL, except I've got a 955.
39C idle and 54C load atm, but that's on a GOOD CHILLY DAY like today. I get close to 65~ on those super hot humid summer days.

you probably just lost the silicon lottery like me thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif

if the cpu vcore is in auto, then you can set it to manual and lower that vcore to default (whatever it is). i have the same mobo and i can set my 960T at stock with a vcore of 1.14v.
as a hex - 1.16v.

it may not be the cooler alone that's at fault but that vcore, ambient and the lack of guidance . . .

EDIT: is this your cpu? . . .

note: vcore - 0.85 - 1.4v.

There really is no reason you shouldn't be able to drop the voltage down to true stock, like rdr said. However, the .85 - 1.4v is the range when CnQ is enabled as the CPU throttles itself down. For the stock clock of 3.4ghz, 1.35v is the default voltage of the 965. So take it off of auto and set it there. The higher idle temps could also be from the higher "auto" voltage. 1.475v would jack my 965 temps up by a good 5-10c on idle/load.

Whatever cooler you have trash it and get something cheap like an Acrtic Freezer Pro 7 with a push/pull fan setup or get something nice like an H80. Either way that cooler needs to go.

Try keeping your vcore at 1.3v. That should reduce temps a lot, also check the air flow in your case and try re-applying the thermal compound.

Unless you can manage your temps overclocking is out of the question. 62c is the max rated temp, but I would shoot for under 55c to be safe.

I have the same processor, good chips if you can manage the heat. Had to take mine under water to hit 4ghz.
