Can somebody explain the Apogee HD to me please?

I completely understand the chipset and memory ports and how they work. What I don't understand however is the GPU loop and it's details. It makes no sense to me how the GPU loop can go from in to in and out to out three times over. If someone could explain this to me I'd be greatly appreciative.

Also, interested in going WC in the future, so, let the learning begin!

In a closed loop, such as our water cooling loops, the amount of resistance at any given point will be the same as any other given point, as the resistance is cumulative through out the loop. That means there is no "path of least resistance" for the water to follow, so it will follow all paths equally. The flow will actually slow down through the blocks themselves, and will speed up again once it returns to the one path, same as restricting a water hose.
This is my understanding, and my logic. I have no hydraulics degree or qualification.

i think the diagram is misleading because it shows arrows going from in to in etc, when it would only make sense if there was one pipe that served all 3 GPUs.

My guess (I have no watercooling experience whatsoever) is that the GPUs have 4 open ports. The water goes down the left top and splits through the GPU block and down to the next graphics card. That way the water that goes through the first GPU is not going through the 2nd or 3rd. Whereas the 2nd and 3rd GPU out is going up through the above GPU's right out.

I have no idea if what I just said makes sense or not.

so to put it simply, the water goes in the top, splits at the fork (down to the next GPU or goes through the waterblock) and then all comes out the top of of the first GPU.

That's a parallel gpu setup. Water goes into all three gpu as the same time and exits all three at the same time. Here's a little guide I made to explain parallel vs serial/series flow (mainly through gpu bridges). The diagrams may help you understand. Btw, I have the Apogee HD, nice block thumb.gif. Don't bother hooking up all the ports like the in the first setup on your opening post. Just set it up like the second one. The gpu, it depends on what and how many gpu(s) you're setting up.

Loop order doesn't make a difference in terms of water blocks. the only order you want to keep in mind is having the pump after the reservoir. The rest, try to plumb it using the least amount of tube necessary.


Any one wanting to disagree with block order statement: I tested this theory using four GTX 480 gpus and an i7 3820 overclocked to 4.6. There was no significant difference to justify a specific order for the blocks. At most 1-2°c but this is using four insanely hot graphics cards. Current gen cards are much more thermal efficient so this difference will probably closer be nil.
