I think they're testing the waters right now. $130 is about the cap of what they'd be worth as a cpu. The majority of customers probably won't care about overclocking, so they'll probably buy the unlocked due to lower power consumption. Look at it as the unlocked being a free upgrade. smile.gif

Trinity's IGP is is great for an IGP, but still worthless for a gaming rig imo, but it may at least be enough to give someone a taste of what it's like. However, they should do great for general usage or as an HTPC setup with light gaming on the side.

It looks like the A10-5800K CPU looks to be just slightly behind the i3 and right on par with the old i5 750/760, and it overclocks up to about 40% on air just like the 750/760 could. For $122 that's not bad! I think the A10-5800K is going to be a mostly irrelevant part though because the A8-5600K comes so close to it for less.

The A8-5600K will probably be the best choice for gamers on a very tight budget who can't afford a GPU or can only afford a 6670 for the hybrid crossfire. Also for HTPC and general use, there's no real difference between the A10-5800K for $122 and the A8-5600K for $101, so you may as well save the 20 bucks if your budget is really that tight.

If you can afford a decent GPU but you can't afford very much for a CPU, and you're willing to overclock, then the part to get will be the $132 FX-4300 (Piledriver) coming out in a couple of weeks. It'll be on AM3+ which has cheaper motherboards than FM2. At stock clocks, it should be an even match for the i3-3220, and with a healthy OC on air to around 5ghz it should match or beat Ivy core i5's at stock settings, and it'll be able to handle any single GPU out there, even the high end ones.

Just like with Bulldozer, I expect that the 6 core Piledriver will somewhat fill the gap between the i3 and i5 lines and may be a viable option depending on pricing, while the 8 core Piledriver looks like it will debut around $242 and not make much sense to most people at that price. Very few users can take advantage of 8 threads, and those who can will flock to Core i7 for much better performance. If you really need the 8 threads and are on a budget, then then PD has to compete against the $234 Xeon E3-1230V2. I doubt that 8 core Piledriver can compete until its price drops below $200.

Now that I'm home, I'm trying to locate some numbers on the 5800k paired with a 6670. No one seems to be testing them. If I build one, I'm building a very sff system with a 5800k and a low profile 6670. It should provide a very pleasant gaming experience and sit on top of the cable box nicely.

Basically, I'm building it to be a console/htpc/lan rig. smile.gif I already have one, but I've been wanting to play with one of these APU's since Llano came out.
