Am I Ever Going To Get a 3TB That Actually Works .. ?

OK so this is my third 3TB drive that I have ordered (first one was a WD Caviar Green, second one was a Seagate Baracuda 3TB and this new one is also a Seagate Baracuda 3TB) ... all 3 are now DOA. This third one actually formatted properly and the filesystem is NTFS. But when I load up SeaTools it says "Drive Status: Inquiry" for the 3TB but the other drives say "Ready to Test". When I do a basic test it says "Failed". Now I am doing a "Fix All Long" test, this should take 8-10 hours... I'm getting kind of alarmed at how this is 3/3 drives in a row now... I kind of feel like the drive manufacturers are getting away with murder on their customers here. It's pretty harsh on the them because they fork over the money and spend all this time and extra money on RMA's just to have dead drive after dead drive... Maybe I should go with a 2TB instead?

Higher capacity drives will either have higher density platters or just more platters, both of which will fail more.

But 3 in a row is pretty ridiculous. Are you buying them from the same place? If so I'd blame the store or shipper before the drives, especially since you have different brands.

I got a 3TB Seagate. Used Sata 3 port and Windows 7 detect it right away. Since its over 2TB you have th chose the file format. Other then that no problem.

The weird thing is Windows 7 never detected it right away (no pop up bubble in the bottom right corner indicating new hardware) but when I went into Disk Management I was able to format it and use the Simple Volume wizard to create a new NTFS volume. Are you saying your Seagate 3TB gave the popup window in Windows 7 for your new drive?

Thanks,

Update:
Ok so 8-10 hours and the SeaTools for Windows Fix Drive Long actually passed. I did get an executable warning at the end of it though. It now says Ready to Test like the other drives instead of Inquiry.

However, when I run a Short Drive Self Test in SeaTools it says ShortDST - FAIL in red. Any ideas what's going on here?
Thanks,

Well I did another SeaTools check after plugging the drive into a different SATA port. This time the checks seem to work. So what does this mean? Is it normal for a brand new drive to come in with some fixable defects? My motherboard is quite new and my SATA cables are brand new. Is it safe to start using this drive to store some important data or should I do some more checks on this 3TB drive first just to be safe? The red failure messages alarmed me, but now they seem to be green?

Thanks,
My System
