Oh crap. I've done this too Tomp, lol. I have the magnet case (as a whole) from a Seagate 7200.10, it was a 250Gb IIRC, started clicking pretty bad. Lol

My WD Blue might be headed there too. Lol, I just really don't care, I keep everything backed up extensively. Drive failures ahoy- RAID1 and external, offline, RAID1.

Once I dropped two small magnets by a PC that wasn't mine (but I did help them build it), its primary HDD got somewhat messed up afterwards. Thankfully, recovery of the data went very well. It wasn't messed up to any extent where the server could not recognize it. I think a few files failed, though. Whether it was a coincidence or not, I do not know. Thankfully, Seagate replaced the Samsung-brand hard drive with a Seagate brand one, and it's been fine since. Phew, glad I made it thru that one! smile.gif

I do tend to run "Seatools" on any Seagate drive,for just about any reason.This same linux instructor I mentioned did give his blessing to Seatools,said that gave worthwhile results.

Seatools is nice, but I tend to not bother. I have a few awesome little tools laying around here that I use from a Hiren boot disk.

If you want to RMA a Seagate hdd you will need one of the failure codes Seatools gives,even if it is the one that says "can't give you a failure code".Isn't RMAing your drives when they need it instead of taking them apart what the thread is about?

You don't need to do that. There is a link you can click on their sight that gives you a list of codes for an RMA. I put in the code the drive does not even show up and then just RMA the thing. Works fine. Did that with about 5 drives so far no issues. I have RMA'd around 30 with seagate - no issues.
