Didn't take this into consideration... (First sleeving job)

..but the cover won't fit back on the PSU even half done, the hole is too small for all of them sleeved cables to go through. So I think I'm gonna have to cut a hole in the side of the cover (like this click here) - unless anyone has any other ideas or tips? Hoping to do it soon if anyone can chime in.

This is my first attempt at sleeving as well, here are some pics so far... (Photos from HTC One X)

Been using lots of information from OCN and many guides by Lutroo and all is going quite smoothly so far (no broken pins etc) so big thanks to you lot! thumb.gif

Why not just enlarge the existing hole and get some rubber stripping to go around the hole (so that the wires don't get sliced)?

I thought of doing this too, and am considering it but there is a lot of stuff attached to the pcb beyond the existing hole and there is a large heatsink kind of thing with copper wire coiled round in the way, but perhaps the wires can squeeze in. But the whole sleeving project is on hold now because this crappy heat gun has died and I haven't got any cutting wheels left.thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif

I also have some rubber piping to go round it so will definitely be using them! Thanks for suggestion anyway.

Either way, I would suggest taking out the PCB before doing any cutting on the casing to avoid getting metal shavings into the PCB area smile.gif

Do this!!

I know a guy who drilled the hole larger, didn't think to remove the pcb, and he shot his hx750 to hell.

GUYS! wheee.gif

Too late, I have already decimated it. who-let-rip-smiley.png (or atleast i think)

i covered the PSU insides with card board and taped it up quite steadily and held it firmly down whilst I went to work with the dremel.

Sadly when I hooked the PSU back up to the system no power, zilch, nothing. I wish I had taken the PCB out now but ah well... I am doing this to learn from my mistakes.

I also tried it in a different system and nothing... Tried a definitely working power supply and both systems work. So something has happened somewhere... Not sure what to do with it now, it seems to be totally dead. I definitely repinned the connectors correctly. I think I will strip and try and reuse the sleeving I used...rolleyes.gif

So far I have only sleeved 2x PCIE and 2x Power phase connector. Didnt touch the 24 pin.

Anyway, life goes on. I haven't really got the money to replace it but I already have. Just bought a Fully Modular Seasonic X-Series 660W... Won't have to go anywhere near this with a dremel hopefully.. I gotta say though, I'm really looking forward to getting this fully sleeved as I really enjoyed what I acheived on the TX650...

It looked alright as well... (apart from missing the target and giving above area a nice scar...)

Can you tell which is MDPC? biggrin.gif

Also picking up a new heat gun on sunday and the new PSU is coming monday so am gonna dive straight back in then! thumb.gif

Many thanks for your input though guys.

It may not be toast. Get a can of air or compressor or even the exhaust end of a vacuum cleaner and blow it out. Make sure you have the mobo connector plugged ALL the way in. Once had a PSU that I thought was dead only to later find out, I had not plugged all the way in.

If all else fails, connect pin 16 and 17 (I think those are the right ones) with a paper clip and see if the PSU powers up.

Just my $.02 worth.

Thanks, will definitely try this when I'm home from work. Will keep you posted thumb.gif

edit: infact, think i've got a bridging plug that came with my mobo? Will that do the same? off the top of my head looks like this...

Well, I have used compressed air, used the exhaust on the vaccum and carefully checked if anything was loose or looked dodgy... Also if there was any kind of metal debris from nodding the cover but it looks fine... Still zero power.

One thing I noticed when I was unsleeving the mdpc cables earlier was in one of the motherboard power connectors I had accidently placed a yellow wire into a black connector and vice versa.

Could this have somehow damaged it when turning the power back on?

Mobo is fine...
