Sleeving: Paracord vs. Name Brand

Okay guys... I badly want to do some sleeving, but I can't afford to buy the fancy MDPC-X stuff... I was looking at completely unrelated stuff, and I found some paracord for sale in various places. And I could actually afford to do heatshrink-less paracord sleeving. So, is it harder to do paracord sleeving? Does it not look as nice? Why don't many people do it?
Heatshrink-less sleeving will take practice, just as any sleeving does, but if you're willing to practice, it's actually easier in my opinion that using heatshrink, simply because you don't need to fuss with all the cutting and making sure the shrink is even. I think Lutro0 has a guide on how to shrinkless sleeve that's awesome and informative.

Looks are subjective, though most people will tell you MDPC looks better simply because it's MDPC. It's made to look amazing, and it certainly does. However, there's many more colors of paracord available, as well as color mixes, and depending on your tastes and the theme of your build, paracord done properly can add the same effect as MDPC.

As for the why don't many people do it, well, I'd say a lot more people do it than it probably seems like. It's just that a majority of people that want to showcase their build in a build log want it to look as perfect as possible, and feel that MDPC makes it look that way, so you only really see people using MDPC and not as many using paracord.

To sum up, don't feel like you're settling for less not being able to afford MDPC. Paracord, as long as you have patience to do it properly, will still make your build look amazing.

I can't comment on paracord, but I highly recommend techflex cleancut. It's pretty cheap from this guy - They respond to e-mails pretty quick too if I remember correctly

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-2-BRAIDED-EXPANDABLE-SLEEVING-CLEAN-CUT-25ft-/230661544820?pt=Car_Audio_Video&hash=item35b47fdb74&vxp=mtr

Very dense nice looking sleeving..let me find some pics.

Edit pics:

Techflex vs standard crap on frozencpu - The denser weave doesn't "open" as far but looks way nicer.

Same comparison on 3 pin fan extension. Notice the "bleed through" of standard frozencpu crap on top cable.

Here is a fan I did a couple days ago

IMO paracord looks better then MDPC. its pretty easy to do shrinkless sleeving. it took me 2-3 tries and i was able to get it down pretty well.

After looking at prices and looking at this video, I must say I am very intrigued. Not sure I have the patience though haha.

Yepp, that's definitely affordable. I would probably buy 1000 feet of black and a couple hundred of red. Paracord is a very viable option if I can work this.

That is the exact same video I watched. And I might buy his little no tangle tool as well. It seems like quite a simple process.

How much sleeving do you plan on doing? I purchased 200 ft and did a 24 pin 8 pin and 2 6 pins with plenty to spare.

Okay, maybe 200 ft of red was optimistic... But I plan on sleeving 3 different power supplies, with a majority of black. So the 1000 ft might be good. Plus I might want to make some actual paracord things (bracelets and such).
