Moving to AMD would definitely be a nail in the coffin for Apple.

I doubt it since Macs only account to 10-20% of there sales.

More then anything i want them to use AMD. This way AMD could have a reason to go all out.

As someone who repairs these things daily, I can tell you I know first hand that the thermals in the iMac are a complete disaster. There are fans that can push a decent amount of air, but there is very very limited incoming air. You end up with the limited intake getting clogged with dust which makes the disaster worse. The massive heatsinks eventually get completely packed with dust where nearly zero air can pass through the heatsinks at all, which ends up getting no airflow to the power supply (because it's cooled by the hot air that comes through the CPU fan, makes a lot of sense.. not) and the power supplies end up taking a crap. Also, all the heat build up ends up making screen burn even worse (somehow, I guess if the display is hot it makes it happen faster, because we can loop diag on the laptops for days on end and they never get any burn in) because the displays get red hot. I can't tell you how many times we've run Apple Service Diagnostics for one loop (about two hours with a hard drive scan) and end up with a clear image of the diagnostic screen burned into the display.

anyone who thinks they wouldn't be moving to their own proprietary arm parts is just...

there have been rumors about them moving their "air" specifically for awhile

Maybe if Apple moved to the AMD camp, we'd see better support for AMD on Windows. We all know about the Wintel alliance, so maybe the performance gap between AMD and Intel is due to the support and not the potentials of the hardware. Food for thought. wink.gif

Honestly I could see them moving to AMD. Apple computers have never really been about the highest performance anyway. Using APUs in their notebooks makes sense because they could move to retina displays on all of their products without having to use dedicated GPUs.

Maybe to AMD... but meh... I don't see the point. Little benefit, and probably a lot of work.
bet you prices don't drop
lol ok.

Go to ANYTHING else and your raw CPU power goes down. Try an enter the game, and Intel will simply demolish you. Either way, it's a terrible idea.

AMD could work, if they want more battery life, but again, raw CPU power would go down. While Apple does a lot of stupid stuff, I dont see them advertising "the new Macbook - now slower than before".
