Is higher CFM better for a case/air cooling fan?

This has been in my mind for a long time.
Also, what are some silent and great performing 120MM and 140MM fans? And a fan controller?
Thank you!

Higher Cfm is always better for the most part, especially for case fans.

Scythe has been known for making good quality fans, with decent audibility .
I'd have to find a fan controller later.

Not just scythe, only the GT line, tried every other scythe fan, and only the GT have the nice bearings and blades, all the rest are kind of like yate loons, sure they get the job done but they will not last more then 1-2 years max. I own 5+ year old gentle typhoons that still spin like the day I bought them, never had a ticking motor or failure yet..

No, black frames and grey blades...but what they lack for in looks they more than make up for in performance and silence.

I have tried a good 30 kinds of fans, nothing compares the gentle typhoons, also a big supporter of 140mm aero cool sharks. The noctua is slightly quieter(also different pitch then GT's), but at the cost of losing at least 1/3 your fans pressure.

Look at GentleTyphoon GT AP-29's (3000RPM) - they're the high-speed line. They can be PWM modded and end up being pretty much the best heatsink fan you can get.

I use a PWM modded AP-31 (5400RPM) as my rear case fan. Unless I'm stress testing, it rarely see's 2000RPM and, at system idle, its under 1000RPM. Though, it needs to be powered by the PSU - which is why I suggest the AP29's. The AP29's can be powered by a motherboard header, where the 31's cant.

Plus the GT's have black blades, as opposed to grey thumb.gif
