Crossfire/Eyefinity Difficulties and questions - Page 2

its doesn't matter on what slot they are. It would only affect the speed of the cards depending on what kind of slot they are installed... if its on x8 or x16. But again, it doesn't really matter.

Anyways, its kinda wierd that it detects or like you said, turns on, after you set the card to work. It doesn't work like that. It should be active all the time... Maybe Its idle. You should check the power options for your PC on Control Panel. Make sure the GPU ain't go idle after sometime. However you said that one card is running while the other is like idle? that's odd and shouldn't happen.
Now you said something about a GPU slot being burnt? That might even be your problem. I don't know what Motherboard you have, but some motherboards with several slots use a dedicate chip to run the last or lasts slots. For example mine. the 3rd slots is being run by another chip, the FN200 (I think that's the chip's name) And if that chip would be damaged the slots that work with that chip might be damaged as well.

Its good to hear you can now run benchamrks, which I don't know if they are okey or not, I havn't done benchies in a while Hahhaha. But it doesn't seem ok that one card is idle while the other isn't.

Btw, does the "Enable crossfire" works now? can you apply the changes after you choose the enable option?

You might wanna fill up the system specs fields on your user options here in OCN forum.

In fact I believe it's been working this whole time, I just had no idea. Asus GPU Tweak (And CCC as well for that matter) both list the second card as completely non-functioning UNTIL it gets something to do. Once I finally said '**** it' and loaded up a game it's temperature reading came back online and it's fans kicked back on.

That turning off is ULPS at work.

Thanks for more replies guys, I'm not quite certain what ULPS is, but I suppose I've got something to google now.

On the other side of things, the starts decided to align and everything is working now, even my never before recognized mDP->DVI adapter was suddenly recognized and I'm now running Eyefinity.

I'll have to keep looking up stuff about why my 2nd GPU Shows 0 on all specs when my PC is 'graphically idle' and then kicks on once things start blowing up.

Also btw I had my specs listed in the Original Post, but I will also endeavor to fill out my profile

It's a power saving option that turns off the card when its not used. In this case, the 2nd card, since is not needed turns off. Its like being idle.

I'm not sure how to disable it, but I do know it has something to do with editing the registries. Here's something i found to disable it.

Read this as a quick primer to the some aspects of AMD cards.

I'd like to say thank you firstly, for that link to the guide on disabling ULPS. It worked perfectly for keeping the second GPU from shutting down when not under load.

Now however I'm having a bit of a different predicament. The card is not being used at all now -_-

Last night it was working great, this morning it wont put any load on the card. Crossfire is enabled in CCC, I ran 3DMark11 and got the same score as I did last night, but now the card sits at 0% usage in Guild Wars 2, when the previous evening it was being used fully up to 98% at times....I'm lost and confused now.

I suppose I'll just keep looking into more and more things, problems are slowly being resolved...soon enough all should be sorted out I hope.

I'm really starting to think it has to do with the GPU slot...

Is the card installed adequately? Make sure its not a little loose or something... Dang I hate when the card is loose and doesn't make a good contact with the slot and makes all kind of issues.

You have much reading to do padwan. On that note, crossfire only works in fullscreen so if you play a windowed the 2nc card is not active.
