I think in terms of gaming performance you can find better ones out there but for sheer awesomeness and looks it really is tough to find something as industrial and kick ass looking as the RAT mouse.
Candidates for a good gaming mouse (not in any order)
1) Logitech - G500 and 400 / G9x / MX518 (if you can still find it)
2) Razer - Deathadder / Abyssus / I'm sure our esteemed Razer fanatics can help out here
3) Roccat Kone series
There are tons out there that really perform well compared to the RAT, it's really a preference and the game type you play.
I've read a few threads in here as well talking about the RAT mouse and it's issues and fixes as well. You may want to check that thread out for more info.
