HD 7870 is faster at stock speeds and with overclocking its performance scales much better than GTX 660 because of a full 256 bit memory system and 32 ROPs.

"In our testing we found that a retail custom factory overclocked Radeon HD 7870 is able to provide better than stock GeForce GTX 660 performance in games. What's more, it is more than capable at high AA settings, and even seems to pull ahead and high settings like 8X MSAA. Our HD 7870 isn't even "fully" overclocked, there is still more potential for performance out of the GPU through manual overclocking. And there is a plethora of custom cooled Radeon HD 7870 cards to choose from in the $240 to $250 segment."

I can only say when buying a graphics card get as much of a powerful card as you can. A year from now you don't want your card to struggle to play the latest games at high settings. I have a HD 6950 2GB which I bought in Jan 2011 and i am quite happy with my card . but in a game like BF3 i have to lower AA to get smooth fps. try and get a HD 7870. rest is your choice. thumb.gif

HD 7850 and HD 7870 have 256 bit memory at 1.2 Ghz . HD 7850 has 1024 shaders at 860 mhz and HD 7870 has 1280 shaders at 1 Ghz in stock version.

There are users running HD 7950 and HD 7970 with Phenom II X4 at 3.4 Ghz. so you don't have to worry. Most games are GPU limited rather than CPU limited.

nobody can say how any card will perform in 2 years from now. with the next gen consoles launching in 2013 game developers will push for much improved graphics . PC version are improvements over and above the console versions. HD 7870 should do well . maybe in future games like Crysis 3 or Metro last light you will have to run without anti aliasing. So its better to get the best card you can while staying within a range of your chosen budget.
