SLI 670 or SLI 680 - Page 3

Get the higher res monitors.

I mean Instead of getting 2 670s for that price you can get 1 670 and a 1440p Korean Monitor.

You can SLI it later but GET THAT MONITOR biggrin.gif
post #22 of 34
A single 670 is overkill for 1080p so there would be no reason to go for dual 680s. IMHO I would go with 2 GTX 670s (ether msi or gigabyte) and if that money really needs to leave your pocket upgrade to the 3930k. whatever you choose you are going to be one happy camper thumb.gif

Yes I agree about the overkill part, but then again every once in awhile a very demanding game like Metro comes along, and I would prefer to be able to max everything even for one game, and also Witcher 2s uber mode is extremely demanding and I would like to do a playthrough on that. I'm an nvidia guy, no offense to the amd users, it's just that nvidia is what I have known and had very littlr problems with so far.

If you're going sli then the 670s will be plenty. Maybe throw the extra cash into upgrade to a 3930k.
If an other gane pike metro come out then that means that the graphics must be amazing so running it at med to high will look amazing look im trying to help youby not breaking to bank but 2 gtx 670 is really overkill sli sounds cool but sli dosnt give you 100% faster than 1 gtx 670 when i had 1 gtx 580 i couldd run games at max but when i got a second one i noticed that the preformance isabout %50 better in games dont look at benchmarks look at games

You wont be happy with $1000 worth if graphics if you have to work overtime or do extra stuff so that you can aford the upgrade and not being able to play the games you love and remember this is for games not a compitetion

Looking at your sig you are putting a $1000 graphics card in a ~$700 rig whats bad about that picture?

Im not good at seeing bottle necks but im sure your cpu might bottle neck sli with a 670 or above

My sig rig is no longer, in my first post I stated I'm getting an I7 3820 and an ASUS sabertooth x79 board. And I only pay attention to the gaming benches where they show the fps, I don't read up on the synthetic marks. I'm going for the 3820 over the 3930 becuase I don't do enough editing to warrant it, I do some, but not a whole lot and money is somewhat of an object at the moment. I prefer SLI because it stretches out the period between upgrades, I was running SLI 275s up til earlier this year and only upgraded to the 480s because of the unbelievable deal there was on them. I sold them due to some unpleasent circumstances though.
Anyways, back to my original question, in the case of SLI 670/680, which is going to be the better long term choice. I know the 670s are very close to the 680 and can even meet it with an OC, but when the 680s are also OC'ed is it going to be a linear scale? Or do the 680s OC much higher than the 670s. If they are still neck and neck at the top of their respective OCs I think I would just go with the 670s.
