23rd December,2012 (Click to show)]Samsung sues Apple in Korea over Apple iPhone Notification CenterQuote:When Apple launched a Notification Center in iOS 5, the feeling was that it was just a matter of time before Google took Apple to court. Well, as it turns out, it isn't Google but is Samsung that is finally taking Apple to court over the feature. Samsung, based in Korea, has the home court advantage with its filing in the country. Unlike some of the other patents being defended in courtroom battles globally, this would not appear to be a standards-essential patent which means that Sammy could be in for a big pay day.

It looks like it as United States Patent and Trademark Office has invalidated 20 claims related to the "pinch to zoom" patent cited in Apple v. Samsung.
Samsung's lawyers made this aware to the U.S. District Court in the Northern District of California in a filing on Wednesday. Here's a snippet:

The Court of Appeal of England and Wales has ordered Apple to pay Samsung’s legal fees on an “indemnity basis,” saying that Apple’s initial apology was “false and misleading” by virtue of referring to other cases outside of the UK (which Apple had won) to spin the whole thing in a sort of positive way. Typically losers already have to pay for the court costs of the winner in the UK, but this ruling takes that to the fullest extent of the law by basically extending it to cover every nickel and dime. It’s intended to serve as a little punishment to Apple for being rather snide about the whole thing. This should bring the whole saga to a close. Hopefully.

First noted by users on news-sharing site Reddit, Apple has within the past few weeks installed JavaScript code that dynamically resizes the central image on the Apple U.K. Web site to take up the maximum amount of space possible.
As a result, the central image -- currently an iPad Mini -- takes up just enough space to push the "apology" statement out of sight, meaning visitors must scroll down the page to view it.

"Britain's Court of Appeal on Thursday upheld the country's High Court judgment that, despite some similarities, Samsung's Galaxy tablet did not infringe Apple's designs, in part because its products were "not as cool".
The decision is valid throughout Europe and should prohibit further legal disputes between the two companies over the design of tablets in the region."
"The U.S. company has been instructed to run advertisements saying Samsung did not copy its registered tablet designs, both on its website and in selected newspapers."

Appeal court overthrow Lucy iKoh ban on Galaxy NexusQuote:Originally Posted by Cnet
A U.S. appeals court overturned a pretrial sales ban against Samsung Electronics Co Ltd's Galaxy Nexus smartphone, dealing a setback to Apple Inc in its battle against Google Inc's increasingly popular mobile software.Apple is waging war on several fronts against Google, whose Android software powers many of Samsung's devices.
The ruling on Thursday from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit is not expected to have an outsized impact on the smartphone market, as the Nexus is an aging product in Samsung's lineup. Apple's stock closed down nearly 2 percent at $628.10.
However, the court's reasoning could make it much harder for companies that sue over patents get competitors' products pulled from the market, said Colleen Chien, a professor at Santa Clara Law school in Silicon Valley.
District Judge Lucy Koh issued a pretrial injunction against the Nexus in June, based on an Apple patent for unified search capability. In its opinion on Thursday, the Federal Circuit reversed the injunction entirely, saying that Koh abused her discretion.

Samsung adds iPhone 5 to latest patent infringement claims against AppleQuote:Originally Posted by TheVerge

While the companies recently wrapped up a jury trial — in which Apple emerged victorious, to the tune of $1.049 billion — this move is part of a different round of legal wrangling. In this second case, Apple is accusing more than 20 Samsung devices, including the Galaxy S III and the Galaxy Nexus, of infringing a wholly different set of patents. Samsung, as before, is alleging infringement as well, having targeted the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch product lines in its initial counterclaims.

Samsung wins reconsideration of Galaxy Tab sales banQuote:Originally Posted by Yahoo!
SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - A U.S. appeals court ruled on Friday that a lower court should reconsider a sales ban against Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1 won by Apple in a patent dispute with the South Korean electronics maker.
The injunction was put in place ahead of a month-long trial that pitted iPhone maker Apple Inc against Samsung Electronics Co Ltd in a closely watched legal battle that ended with a resounding victory for Apple last month on many of its patent violation claims.
However, the jury found that Samsung had not violated the patent that was the basis for the tablet injunction and Samsung argued the sales ban should be lifted. U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh said she could not act because Samsung had already appealed.
