7900GT or X1950Pro?

Thread Starter
Which card should I get, an eVGA 7900GT for $210, or a Powercolor X1950Pro for $210? Will be running at 1440x900. Looking to run FEAR at absolutely maximum settings and still keep a nice FPS. Also, do you guys think a 7900GS would be able to do this? I'm looking for the cheapest solution, but if the 7900GS will struggle, which of the other two?

eVGA 7900gt... great card, and you can step up to a dx10 card in a few months when the prices (hopefully) drop

7900GT. It actually Overclocks, the x1950PRO doesn't, at least not well. Plus, it's the faster card.

And neither of those cards will run FEAR completely maxed out with good frame rates. You need SLI or Crossfire to max that game out entirely.

Woo! I had been getting referred to the X1950Pro in a few places but I was really hoping the 7900GT was the better of the two! Thanks guys!

Hopefully I can run FEAR *close to max when I get my C2D put together along with the 7900GT

make sure you purchase your 7900gt from eVGA though.... I purchased my 7950gt from them becuase there's a slim possibility that in 3 months, I'll use their step up program to get a 8xxx card (the company also has great 24/7 support, and have wicked return policy that covers overclocking if their step up program isn't enough to get your attention)

X1950pro. FSAA+SM3.0 HDR, better image quality, etc., etc.,...

Not doing it for the 8800. I'd get a X1950Pro but I'm an ATI Guy. Also, I enjoy high quality imgaes.

Generally from benchmarks and in game FPS the 7900GT is faster then the Pro. I would get the GT if its the same price. However this Pro stays ice cold with that Accelero X2.
