Tec idea with 690 and coolant

post #1 of 14
Thread Starter
Hi, iv been wondering if these could be used with 690 or some sort?
idea was cooling the liquid itself in a modified Zalman Reserator XT using the blocks with tecs but mby they could be set on a 690

version 1
Liquid exchanger to rapidly remove heat from the hot side of TECs or TEGs. Most efficient method of removing heat from multiple TECs or TEGs.

Measures: 5.75 x 5.75 x 1.15 inches

Inlet and Outlet on opposite sides.

Usable flat area of 5.20 x 5.20 inches (132 x132 mm)

Liquid volume (internal) is 205 ml.

18 mounting holes tapped for 6-32 screws

Inlet & outlet tapped 3/8 " NPT: Comes with 2 pieces brass 1/2" ID hose barb fittings.

Will accomodate;
Single TECs or TEGs up to 132 x 132mm
2 to 4 TECs or TEGs up to 62 x 62mm
2 to 4 TECs or TEGs up to 50 x 50mm
2 to 9 TECs or TEGs up to 40 x 40mm
2 to 16 TECs or TEGs up to 30 x 30mm

CNC Machined from a solid billet of aluminum with an O-ring seal. Internal flow path is easily serviceable by removing screws and cover.

This water block has been tested with a heat load of up to 1600 watts. All indications showed that it could handle higher loads.

version 2
Same as standard WBA-4.0-0.92-AL-01 Except with thicker (0.37") cover with counter bored holes for screws. Provides a flat surface with no screw heads protruding.

Liquid exchanger to rapidly remove heat from the hot side of TECs or TEGs. Most efficient method of removing heat from a peltier cooler TEC or TEG.

Measures: 4.0 x 4.0 x 1.1 inches

Inlet and Outlet on opposite sides.

Usable flat area of 3.54 x 3.54 inches (90 x 90 mm)

10 mounting holes tapped for 6-32 screws

Inlet & outlet tapped 1/4" NPT: Comes with 2 pieces brass 1/2" ID hose barb fittings.

Will accomodate;
Single TECs or TEGs up to 90 x 90mm
2, 3, or 4 TECs or TEGs up to 40 x 40mm
2 to 8 TECs or TEGs up to 30 x 30mm

CNC Machined from a solid billet of aluminum with an O-ring seal. Internal flow path is easily serviceable by removing screws and cover.

This water block has been tested with a heat load of up to 1200 watts. All indications showed that it could handle higher loads.

version 3
All copper water block Liquid exchanger to rapidly remove heat from the hot side of peltier TECs or TEGs. Most efficient method of removing heat from a thermoelectric TEC or TEG.

TECs and TEGs can be mounted to both sides thereby allowing heat removal from two 40x40mm TECs at the same time.

All copper construction allows for parts and components to be soldered to water block for maximum thermal conduction.

Measures: 1.62 x 1.62 x 0.55 inches

Inlet and Outlet on the same side.

Usable flat area of 1.62 x 1.62 inches (41 x 41 mm) per side

Inlet & outlet tapped 1/16" NPT: Comes with 2 pieces Nylon barbed tube fittings for 3/16" ID tubing.

Will accomodate per side;
Single TECs or TEGs up to 40 x 40mm
2, 3, or 4 TECs up to 20 x 20mm

CNC Machined from a solid billet of copper. Brazed together to a 100 psi rated watertight seal.

Minimum flow rate: 0.1 gpm. Maximum flow rate: 2.5 gpm.

sounds good?, whats your opinion?

Larger version of copper might work but how would you cool the hot side of the Tec`s ? Inlet and outlet should be much larger to allow for more water flow, at least 3/8 but preferably 1/2 inch. Funny but I have been a master plumber for 35 years and have never heard of 1/16 inch national pipe thread. I could be wrong but maybe they use it laboratories and I didn`t see it being used for capillary tubing. Nice renderings, I wish I could do that. thumb.gif

Those pictures are actual products from a company that makes those. Don't remember the name or their website, but I have seen them *years* ago smile.gif.

They were terribly expensive IIRC...

**Edit** Wow, that was easy...not only is the site still up, it looks exactly like it did in like 2005 :lol:. http://www.customthermoelectric.com/Water_blocks.html

What kind of high-pressure pump are you going to use to try and get a reasonable flow rate in and out of 1/16 inch fittings ? Remember TEC`s need very good flow rates to transfer the cooling. Pressure necessary may cause some problems with the rest of the loop.thumb.gif

The larger ones have standard barbs and ship with larger diameter ones like 1/2". I would think two of these ones sandwiching 4 of those 40mm 192W TECs would chill passing water pretty well, but be terribly expensive...Even using Ebay TEC's you're looking at $320 plus shipping just for the chiller section - and then you still don't have the two pumps, a rad, tubing, couple fans, a power supply OR method of controlling them.

At that price the Arqtik chiller setup will be a much better deal IMO. Heck, I didn't sit and do the math but you could probably chain two of them together for a similar price overall.

Depends on how many Modules you have, and the load being cooled. A GTX 690 is 300W so it would take a couple modules to keep that cool, but it can do the job.
