Problem with 1100T processor

Thread Starter
This may be an old issue, however, I've Googled, Ask.com, searched the AMD forums and every other search I can think of to find a solution unsuccessfully.

I have an Asus M4A87TD EVO motherboard which is listed as Phenom II x6 ready and has the 1100T processor listed as a compatible one.

I have 8mb of Corsair XMS (1600) memory and have NO overclocking of any type setup on the system.

I've been running this system since March of 2011 with no problems whatsoever, no BSOD's, no freezes, nothing, however out of the box, the CPU has only every shown up as running 4 cores.

I have read the users manual for the motherboard several times and cannot find any BIOS settings to change this, everything is set at AUTO as recommended.

Please help.

Attached is a snip of the CPU showing up on CPU-Z.

Do you have "ACC" or "Core Unlocker" turned OFF on that board? It might mess with the cores, in the BIOS- make sure that all 6 -do- show up, and then disable it.

Did you reinstall Windows when you installed this processor?

Edit: On that board, it may also be labeled "CPU Core Control", it should either be in the Advanced Options, or under "CPU Configuration" along with SVM and Microcode updates.

Did you used to have a quad core using the same motherboard and windows installation?

^this. ensure your bios is 1005 found in the Main page of bios

Take a look at task manager, see how many cores it reports .

Thanks for all the suggestions...still haven't gotten it fixed yet.
Bios was the most current. All 6 cores do show up in the Bios - tried the unlocker on and off, tried the Turbo core on and off. Task manager only shows 4 cores.

I've tried all of the suggestions except 1.

The hard drive / W7 installation was carried over from my previous system...I didn't reformat when I upgraded my MB, Processor & Memory, I followed all of the steps to just transfer my existing drive over to the new system specs and made it work. I have a spare 1Tb Barracuda drive that I'll install and reformat to see if that will solve the problem.

And there's your problem, I went from a core 2 duo to my 955, and no matter what I did, task manager would never detect my other 2 cores, not until I did a windows repair.

That will do it, but before you reformat etc. try running wprime, set the number of cores to 4 and run it. When thats done, reset the number of cores to 6 and see if it makes any difference in your score. Just curious if the 6 cores are working inspite of what windows is reporting.

Ok, more to expand onto the confusion of this problem. I'm not sure if its an ASUS 'issue' or if it's due to the power saving features of the MB but with the MB bios set to factory defaults (everything on AUTO) the system only utilizes 4 cores. The bios, as previously stated, recognizes all 6 cores but only 4 are activated.
After going through all of your suggestions, turning things on and off and trying different settings I was able to get the bios start up screen to show me that 6 cores are activated. On the green ASUS start-up screen; press 'DEL' to enter setup, press F8 for...etc; It actually displays a processor with an arrow pointing up with a 6 above it and has text next to it stating that 6-cores are activated.
However, the only way that I could get all 6 cores to activate through the bios was using the following steps (changing from the bios AUTO settings): AI Overclock Tuner - Enabled, Turbo Core - Enabled, Core Unlocker - Enabled, Core Activator - Manual (it will show 5 cores with each one turned on).
I also tried wprime with both scenarios (with the 6 cores showing on the bois screen and without). When the bios is set to AUTO, wprime only recognizes 4 threads. After changing the settings to Enabled and having the 6 cores show up on the bios screen, wprime recognizes 6 threads. However, the current W7 installation running CPU-Z still only displays 4 cores and 4 threads. So I'm guessing that all 6 cores are functioning regardless of what Windows is showing.
