Which card to upgrade to.

Thread Starter
I'm working my dad's buddies PC. It's a Dell Inspirion 530. I have attached a copy of the GPU-Z link taken from his current PC config. I don't know if he can even go up to DDR3 based off his mother board, CPU-Z says "Chipset P35/G33/G31" "PCI-Express, max supported x16". Basically I need to upgrade his video card but don't know of which one will be compatible. If anyone could give me a few suggestions it would be great appreciated!. + Reps for good answers.

Edit: I'm trying to stay under $50, and it doesn't matter if it's ATI/AMD or Nvidia. thumb.gif

Look at either a GT 430 for Nvidia or an HD 5450/6450 for ATI

Would you consider used cards? Do you require DX11 support?

Thanks for the suggestion and link. Will this card work in his motherboard though? That is what I am concerned about. His current card is DDR2, wasn't sure if his Mobo could handle a DDR3 GPU.

Yes I would consider used cards. The seller must have a great rating though. And no DX 11 is definately not required. DX 10 would be fine. But I'm not looking for a side grade either, I'm looking to upgrade. biggrin.gif What ya got to sell?

It won't matter what type of ram the card uses. One thing I'd be concerned about when upgrading, is the PSU. Considering it's a Dell the PSU will probably be really bad, but I don't think you'll run into any problems with a graphics card in the price range you're looking at.

Cool. Thanks for the suggestion. It's probably a 300W-400W power supply, but I haven't checked. I got a spare 600W lying around here somewhere I could use if needed.

Sorry about editing my post after you replied.
You might want to make sure the spare power supply would fit, cause if I remember correctly some older Dells used non-standard power supplies.
