Computer Problem, locks up randomly?

Thread Starter
Last night I started having random lockups, about every 30 minutes, today it's worse, especially in games.

I took off my overclock (which i've been running stable for several months), running stock speeds now, took the voltage down so it can't be an over-heating issue, and I am still getting the same lockups.

Is it my RAM or my CPU or what? How can I tell?

Any help is appreicated as I need this to be fixed soon or at least know what part I need to replace...

I would say try resetting the CMOS if you havent already. It *could* be your PSU you going south also. Run memtest at Stock settings to check the ram, run PRIME to check CPU, run ATITool to check graphics card.

Is it my PSU? Is it obvious when a PSU is going bad? Will it not even turn on? Because mine turns on and the fans are moving (quietly) so how do I know if it is my PSU that went bad ?

I tested each RAM stick seperately, loaded up a game and they both failed upon joining a server, (I could notice some difficulties before I loaded the game though). I put both sticks back in together and had some blue screens trying to restart, finally it restarted....

I tried running memtest with both sticks in and it blue screen'd immediately.

RAM or PSU ?

Sounds like RAM, try testing them individually.
The PS is a well know unit but you never know. A quick check in the BIOS will give you an idea but the best way to test is with it under load with a volt meter and prod the correct terminals on either a SATA power cable which has all 3 rails or a 4 pin moldex with 2 rails.

About a year ago I bought the same PSU as you have now. The first one was DOA and its replacement worked for about a month then I had to RMA it too. Turns out they were both Revision A1. The third one that I got was Rev A2 and it has been stable ever since.

thanks for the comments, do you think reformatting is worth a try ?

I ran MemTest86 from my BIOS using both sticks until it was 100%, no errors ... I am really confused as to where to go from this except to reformat and see if that helps anything.

Will update tommorrow unless someone has another suggestion
