Low Physics score with FX-6200

Thread Starter
Okay so i just got my XFX HD 7950 today and was doing 3dmark 11 runs and im wondering why my physics score keeps being so low on my AMD FX-6200 3.8ghz CPU. I dont expect it to be a great score with it not being overclocked yet but on a review of the processor they showed getting 6150 and mine is wayyyy lower than that. Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated and i thank you greatly for your time ^_^

Are you running the stock cooler? Maybe it's throttling.

I am still running the stock cooler (i have a very limited budget with these things lol) but it doesn't ever get high in temperature or anything during the tests. Tho i did just realize my RAM is reading as single when its suppose to be dual and 1333 when its suppose to be 1600, would that be having much of an affect on the physics performance(i know its rather CPU dependent but didn't know if it would still have an affect)

How is your case airflow? Mainly, around the CPU socket? You're using stock cooling correct?

Your motherboard is using a 4+1, unsinked VRM setup to power the CPU. I'd highly recommend at least putting a fan near it, like a spotcool. Even better would be buying a set of small (cheap) heatsinks for it. As when the VRMs get too hot, they may be causing your processor to throttle.

the placement of the CPU makes it right next to a 120 mm fan with the air being pulled out, that should help a bit right? My tower allows for a 120mm fan directly above the CPU would that help a lot to fix the problem?

Well not sure if it's throttling at all or not, download prime95, and get coretemp, watch the temps and frequency for a bit, see if it goes way down WHILE p95 is running.

This, and watch CPU-Z while you're running Prime95. If the clockspeed changes, it's a heat or power problem.

AIDA64 > HWMonitor > Coretemp / Realtemp (These work best for Intel based platforms)
