Well, i was bored so i went ahead and decided to practice lapping (ill be lapping my X6800 soon) with an old P4 I had around. The only grits I had were 200 and 600, so it is still very rough, however, im looking for someone to tell me if it looks atleast decent. Thanks in advance!

doesn't look too bad, but you'll want at least 1500.

I think it was an old 2.4 ghz. Used to be in my moms old HP before I built her a new one.

Umm.. Not all that good.

600 can still shine it up, just give it more time.

Lapping is a LONG and Tedious procedure.

i lapped both my CPU and BT.

Both took about 1 1/2 hours each. I started on 400grit till it was flat, then shined her up to 2000 grit.

1 more thing. DON'T RUSH, just keep going until it is a MIRROR finish!

Good luck!

Hey nos, can you get a mirror finish with 600 grit, i went at it for 30 minutes and it didnt get any better than that. PS, im selling a Asus A8N32 SLI Deluxe for 100 if you are interested! Check out the for sale section. Just thought I would let you know since you are looking for a 939 SLI board.

How are you lapping? in circles or back and fourth? I did it in circles, and I didn't charge the sandpaper, fresh made it worse.

EDIT: those pics are with 2000 grit.

if lapping is anything like sanding anything else (namely clear acrylic) -- then you cant get ANY mirror with 600 grit. Im willing to bet with soft aluminum/copper, it will take 1200-1500 to get ANY mirror at all. But Id suggest 2k grit for the best results.
