Aftermarket coolers for ASUS HD6950 DCUII Non ref

Thread Starter
Having all manner of problems with my card at the moment the onboard fan sensors decided it wants to keep the fans at 100% no matter what the temp is. Its loud and annoying tried afterburner etc no go. It was a noisy cooler anyway so was thinking i could pop a new hopefully quieter one on it. Does anyone know of any coolers that will fit?

The non-ref design only limits your options in regards to full-cover waterblocks. All air coolers that fit the ref version should fit the DCII.
A bit of a shame really because the DCII is pretty much one of the best air coolers around already.

Check if the chip responsible for fan control is okay, then you could pop in a compatible air cooler (Arctic Accelero maybe?) if you want to stay on air, otherwise get a compatible waterblock.
Good luck. thumb.gif

Chips got no visible signs of damage nor has the power circuitry for it from what i can see. Im wanting to keep it on air really unless i can get an enclosed unit or similar

Cooler wise seems i may hit a few hurdles. Heres a stock 6950/6970 PCB

http://www.coolingconfigurator.com/upload/pictures/HIS-RADEON-HD6950-PCB_10000.jpg

And here is the ASUS one, note the caps on the left of the GPU

This could prove a fun search!

you might want to check out this page for the red-mod.

http://www.overclock.net/t/1203636/official-amd-ati-gpu-mod-club-aka-the-red-mod

double check your settings on the fan controll
possibly reseat your heatsink.. (might void your warranty) but same with aftermarket products...
I used mx-4 (artic)
im currently using one 120x49mm closed loop cooler i moddified with a gpu cooler to cool 2 6950's in crossfire.
however the mod uses one clc for one gpu. and does a great job at keeping it quiet and cool. check it out.

Been faffing with fan profiles, no change annoyingly. for the time being ive botched up a lead to hook into a fan controller, not a hugely elegant solution but its working. May have to look into one of those DWood brackets then.
Thanks for the link Sunset1 Ill have a faff and see what i can do, may get inventive with some case fans but i do like the shroud on this cooler

Faff's a British slang type word for messing around with something but not really getting anywhere with it.

TTSM106 ive spliced it into my front panel fan controller for the time being but thanks for the links anyway smile.gif
