torn between 2 sets of speakers

Thread Starter
I am looking to upgrade my speakers, and I can't decide which set I should go with. There both about the same price, so that's not really the issue. I'll be using these speakers mostly for gaming.

Behringer Speaker MS40

Logitech Speaker System Z623

I like the fact that the Behringer speakers have a toslink connection (I wish more speakers had this), but I also like how the Logitech speakers are THX certified.

Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.

if you're going for realistic sound, get the Behringer speakers. Logitech is famous for having overpowered muddy bass.

Side-note: THX is not something speakers need to be "certified" to do.

This shouldn't even be a question. Behringer.

Logitech's audio stuff is terrible. I had a Logitech X-230 set and hated it. The left and right speakers were connected via a cable that could not be disconnected, and eventually that cable developed a problem and one of the speakers died.

I now own a set of these, which are great because they use normal speaker wire to connect the two speakers. I won't have to trash them just because a cable dies, like I did with the Logitech set.

Now since the Behringer speakers have a toslink connection, should I connect them to the optical port of my motherboard; or should I invest in an add-on sound card?

Get a 2nd opinion, but IIRC, toslink is digital, so you don't need a sound card for any performance gains.

Toslink is digital, but in order to get "performance gains" the onboard DAC has to be of better quality than the Realtek.

Not sure if it is or not. You kind of just have to test it yourself.
