Long story short- The wife is tired of her laptop (and me tired of her being on my system), so i am building her one.
i waited for trinity to come out and now that it is-here we go.
this is what i have for it-

quick bio: old/married 25 years/22 yo daughter/ 20 yo son/live in Wa state/woodworker/cabinet maker for 25+ years/ built first system in 1998.
i have made/modded 20 or so systems in the last 4 years, sold all but 4-

this will be my fourth wood case-
i am making it out of solid ash, with a 2 step stain, here is a sample-

i went in today (the shop i have been working at for 17 years, and put in 4+ hours-

Thanks Guys.
well i put in another 4-5 hours this morning and did a few things.
this is a cut and fit job, so i have been working it out in my head as i go along.

added a piece of trim to the top-




made a mock foot-not sure what the end product will be, but this is a start. (i make the test pieces out of scrap, i dont want to waste the ash if i make a mistake)





made the HDD cage, i also left room for SSDs.


like my mock plywood hdds-lol



made a box to cover the fan controller and power switches-




back to work tomorrow-but as of last friday, only 40 hour this week-YEA!!! (been putting in 55-65, for 5 of the last 6 months)
so i have the top and front fan cut outs (still deceiding on the design) the power switches, fan controller and the solid wood window cutout-the one behind the MB try, i will keep the acrylic front side.
and the feet.
then the final sand (5 hours) and then to finish.
i should receive the inner stuff tuesday, finish building the case next weekend (cross fingers) and stain/finish.

then comes the fun part for me.
the wife gets my Hanns-G 28" 1920 x 1200 monitor and i get $500 or so on a new monitor(s)
looking at this one-Nixeus WQHD 27" S-IPS Ultra High Resolution 2560x1440
but i still have a couple weeks to figure it out.

so i put in a few hours last weekend, i would have finished it, but i was ill for a few days.
i did go in this morning (4 am) and put in 5 hours finishing it up-just the machining.
i havent deceided on what i am going to use on the back side cutout, acrylic or wood-so i made 1 of each.



i will paint the acrylic one red to match the stain.

cut and fit the mesh for the top and front, i still need to sand them down and repaint.


made a cutout on the bottom for the psu fan.


drilled and routed for the fan controller and power switches.
there is VERY little material left after i routed out for the fan controller.



not the best picture.

added the top trim.



made the feet.




mounted the box to hide the fan controller and power switches.


and did a dry fit.



i am going in tomorrow and tear it apart and start finish sanding, painting and staining.
i hope to have it done by next monday.
i cant wait to see it after the stain.

and a good thing for me, i just ordered my crossover 27" 2560 x 1440 monitor.

friggin bosses-URGH!!!
so the finisher was going to put the red stain and finish on it last week, but the bosses wanted him to work on work stuff-go figure-lol
so he didnt have time, as of last friday at 4pm, when i left work.
well blow me down, i walked into work at 4:45am this morning and the red stain and finish was applied-those gosh darn finish knomes-lol
he came in on saturday and did it-i owe him big time.

well, last weekend, i went in and did all the finish machining/cutting/drilling and sanding.
then i applied the black dye-sorry i dont have any pictures of it covered all in black, but the dye is a mess and i still had it on my fingers 3 days later. (it bled through 2 layers of gloves)
1/8th of a cup to 5 gallons of thinner and it will turn anything black.
i left the HDD rack bare-very different color, but i wanted it that way.





as you can see the all black parts, that is how the whole thing looked, then i started sanding it off.
i left it darker in places that others, to give it the worn/antique/shadow look-a lot of hand sanding.

well, i have tomorrow off, if i want it,BUT, i just ordered a 8350 and some 2133 ram, so i could use the money.
BUT, i would really like to get this one finished-i have everything sitting in boxes, ready to go.
i will sleep on it-lol

this work is insane! so amazing!
what i think of when i see this is like old 1930's radios, they were wooden works of art that the whole family got heir information and entertainment from, and now today your making computers look like that again and they serve a similar purpose in our modern society.
