AMD Phenom II X4 945 work on Narra 5 Motherboard?

Hi everyone, I'm new here, but i need your help on deciding whether or not to buy this cpu for my mobo which is a narra 5
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c01701270 <<<<
motherboard info there

the cpu i plan on getting is an AMD Phenom ii x4 945 at 95w which is what the motherboard allows, but the issue is it says its a AM3 socket not a an AM2+ socket, but i've heard of others actually running this cpu on the same board. is it possible.

here are two links of the cpu that i have found, they match up entirely except they both say am3, and my mobo doesn't have a bios update that supports anything higher am2+

http://www.usatechcity.com/amd-phenom-ii-x4-945-3-0ghz-4x512kb-socket-am3-quad-core-cpu-retail/

http://www.play-asia.com/AMD_Phenom_II_X4_945_4x_3.00GHz_boxed/paOS-13-71-1qd-49-en-70-5gft.html

The only reason i bring this up, becuase as i was lookin all over google for info i stumbled upon a similar post on this very forum, but the guy who posted never posted if it actually worked but his spoiler in his signature has my mobo with the same cpu, so i'm guessing it worked? here is the link to that forum

Plese help and thnk you all for reading my post! smile.gif

hello,
sorry , but wiki told me that the am3 is not able to fit am2+, which i should have known as i have am2+, am3 and am3+.
the am3 chips handle ddr3.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_AM3

its is indeed " All Planned Obsolescence Around Here"

the am3 chips can go into am3+ mobos though.

yea i ran into that as well, but the supported cpu's listed for my mobo all say am3 or either am3/am2+
but it has to just be a sole am2+, im guessing when the am3/am3+ launched they were backward compatible but not forwards and sellers changed their listing. now i'm lost

also have you looked at the other post i have kinked at the bottom of my first post, some guy had a similar situation, but in his signature, if you click his spoiler he has my motherboard, with the CPU i want...

you know what, i think your right, if i remember correctly, i put my athlon II x4 in my old mobo (Asus am2+ m2r32-mvp), problem was that the bios was wrong so the cpu was not identified when i used it. it cant run games as it dont know the cpu and i couldn't install anything either.
so why do wiki say that?

yea even when i look at other am2+ boards, on a website that does combos, it asks if i would like to add on a phenom x4 950 lower and up for extra money, but when i click the link on it to see item info its listed as an am3. i just dont get frown.gif i really wish the guy from the other post would've posted if it worked

It seems only the 95W Phenom II and Athlon II are supported.
The 125W may still run but there is a chance of motherboard failure due to overheating.

I suggest you just get an Athlon II X3 triplecore which is almost as fast as quadcore phenoms but only 95w and runs cooler
