Leave it running, or turn it off?

Thread Starter
I'm getting close to ordering parts to water cool, and I'm wondering if people leave their computers running 24/7, or power them off when they are away (work, vacation, e.t.c...)

Thanks

It depends, but I've left mine running for a few days before. If you are water cooling you just need to be extra extra sure no leaks or anything of that nature will threaten your expensive parts while you are away and unable to do an emergency stop or dry out the parts properly or whatever. Ifyou do the water cooling right the first time you can leave it running no problem.

That being said, I usually turn it off since my gaming rig that is watercooled costs quite a lot in electricity so I don't use it unless the machine is being used for something. (i.e. Folding/Bit-mining/gaming)

I normally run my system 24/7 with no issues whatsoever. Long as your confident in your work putting it together and leak tested for 24 hours you'll be fine.

Turn it off, yeah it's really quiet, but they use lots of power, leave it on unless downloading, or watching a movie.

Turn it off, just like all other electronics in your house. You don't leave your TV on 24/7, do you?

Ever since Windows 7 and really fast SSDs using UEFI so that boot-up takes less than 15 seconds, I just turn it off every night when I'm done unless there is something important that it needs to do.

Also you asked during work/vacation. During work it depends. If I have it accessible such that I can log on remotely using my phone and I'm doing numerical analysis on the computer (as my home computers are close to an order of a magnitude faster than the crap at work), then I'll leave it on then. But I never leave it on over vacation or when I'm gone. Even with the power state such that it can go down to low power it isn't low enough for me to be happy with the electricity costs. Those are high enough as it is these days.
