Best RAD setup - To fit a small box

Hi

A change of plans, means that I need to look at radiators again ... The space I got to fit my rad/rads + fans is this:

(Not my case, but just the most easy way to show it) ...

The max Height of 150mm and 200mm long is just perfect to fit a 140mm (They are offen 142x180mm or something close to that).

If I use the full 170mm (D) it will be touching the PSU side, so dont think that any more than ~150mm will work.

My first plan was to use a Sandwich setup like this:

Total will be 122mm (Fans = 25 x2 and EX = 36 x2) - Could also be 2x XT45 and 2x fans = 140mm ... But this test show that the Sandwich setup dont work well:

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?220874-More-Radiator-Sandwich-testing

Is still thinking that it could work with something like a spaser between the rad and fan in the middle, so it got some air to pull from (20mm or somesthing)

But then im back to a single RAD, and in that space the UT60 in push/pull looks like a winner ...

Is searcing how will it will perform compare to something like 2x single EX140 (One fan each)

Hope you understand what I mean and got some input thumb.gif

The UT60 setup makes more sense to me.

Why not wait for a month or so when the alphacool nexxxos monsta 140mm rad is supposed to come out instead to get the most bang out of the space?

Wuuhuuu, a 140mm Monstra biggrin.gifbiggrin.gif ... Sounds like just the thing I need - A 140mm Monstra in Push / Pull with some highend fans, could it cool a 3770k and a GTX670 ? ...
Yeah, wait for the Monsta. If it scales like the 120, you can get similar performance to a 280 or maybe even a 360 from a single 140mm rad! The Monsta rads tend to perform equivalent to one size up, so the 140 models will be insane.

Based on ? - Have seen people in the "Small Form Factor Systems" cooling both CPU and Graphic with something that size - Dont need max 40 Degrees on load ...

Hmmm.. im not familiar with that radiator but i do recall someone cooling a cpu and gpu on a REALLY thick 120 radiator before, Im getting decent temps with my 184 radiator as well with gpu + cpu (60-67c)

but with ivy 3770k just have to be careful as the Temps can sky rocket depending on what voltage you use redface.gif

At first when i saw the pic of the sandwich set up i was like noooooooooo tongue.gif

If you can get that kind of temperatures with a 184mm, then a 140mm monstra should be just fine :-) ...

Will be using Push/Pull, it has a larger surface area and is thicker than the 184mm you are using = Should work biggrin.gif
post #10 of 14
Look at it this way,

3770k = 95 watts
GTX 670 = 141 watts

That's a total of 236 watts of heat generated assuming no OC. If you don't want any headroom then yes that monsta with some high powered fans might be able to meet that, but it would not be a huge improvement over the standard heatsink fans I'd imagine. General rule of thumb is about 100 - 120 watts per 120mm fan space. A 140 is a little under 20% larger in surface area and add an extra 33% for the extra thickness of the monsta and it's around 1.5 times that for a 140 monsta. That gives you 180 watts max of cooling with fans in push pull. Think my math is right lol...
