how well would this work

have always been intrested in tec cooling, but never really put in the time to study up on them.
mostly because they use math formulas that i just look at and say "huh?'.

using that tec for either or both cpu/gpu.

If your CPU/GPU generates more heat than 80W, it will fry your chip. Qmax is what determines the maximum power, and that is also at 16.1V. You'ed most likely be running it at 12V so that would bring the Qmax down to 50W. If your CPU were to be 50W maximum, you're temps will be equal on hotside and coldside. Since TECs generate heat by themselves, chances are hot side temps will be 5 - 10°C warmer than coldside when run at good settings. If it were CPU were 50W, temps on the cold side would probably be like 40°C.

In short, that TEC won't do anything in terms of cooling unless your CPU were ultra low powered.

1090T - 125 watts

since the wattage is 125 do you stick with a tec that has a qmax of the same 127 or slightly higher or do you go much higher?

i see 120 qmax and a 172 qmax

i would like to run off of a 12v power source from the psu to reduce items needed to be bought.
not really looking to keep it below room temp, this way i don't need to be worried about condensation.

If you were to use a TEC, you want a higher Qmax than that of your CPU. Although that 172W Qmax TEC says 172W, that is when run at 24.6V. You will be running them at 12V, which would bring their Qmax to around 130W. This will cover your CPU, but it is at the limits of the TEC. If you overclock at all, that TEC won't cover. However the next problem is condensation which will fry your CPU if it forms. You would have to properly insulate your CPU socket if you weren't using a controller. Arqtik makes TEC controllers that will use a standard CPU PSU to power the TEC. But you would have to find out how to place the Thermometer in the CPU so it can adjust the power to the TEC and prevent Condensation.

When considering TECs, it's not as easy as just sandwiching a TEC between your CPU and a waterblock. ANd don't even try to sandwich one inbetween an Air Cooler. It just won't work.
