wht do you guys think? maybe i build 2 basically the same computers and sell one or something?thumb.gif

cheapness.

spoke to a shopclerk today. he said they get some motherboards back for updating bios for the customer, AND!!!!!!! sometimes they have to update even when the manufacturer claims you dont need to.

so im borrowing an phenom ii witch should work, and update bios with that.
they had a socket am3 for about 50 dollars, but i'll just wait to borrow the phenom and see if it works, those 50 bucks would be going straight in the lake so to speak.
if my friends phenom wont lauch... I will buy anothermotherboard.

cheers

must be defective board becasue the 970ext3 should work fine for a 4 core. Here are some better options

thank you so much.. turns out the board was working, and the beepcode was 5 LONG beeps... i thoink. It didn't want to start up with the new 7770 with only the hdmi.. if i would have had a dvi cord i think it would have worked..
I got an old graphix card from another computer and put it in. and it worked.. cant get it to stop giving me those beepcodes.
I just pulled out the speaker from mobo..
i got the fx 4100 up to stable 4.699 Ghz (1.4370v i think, one down from 1.5) with stresstest (occt) worked great. OMG !!!!! biggrin.gif:D:D (4.717 fail on 1.55v) still super cool though.. never above 50 celsius

then... i tried to change the ram speed, 'couse i thought they might be running to slow.
I changed the HT link frequency to 1570 ish (corsair vengeance 1600Mhz)
Board died.. NOOOOOO did't smell burnt or anything, but the beepcodes went away and it's dead forever i think.
Bought the 990 fx extreme3 (newer chipset?) and it worked right away. still videocard malfunction beepcode though. annoying.

and now i coul only get the fx4100 up to 4,480 stable mad.gif crap.... but still works great..
the temperatures went up 5 degrees Celsius. from cpu idle 30C and mobo temp 28C (come on thats cooler than my body! amazing at 4,7!!!)
to idle cpu 35C and mobo temp 33C. also annoying. whaty could be the difference?
i guess the earlier temps could have been low, witch i suspected.
recommend this build. very cheap and kicks ass. the 4100 overclocks real easy and ALOT.. (max 1,1Ghz i think, on air cooling 24/7)

COMART swing usb3 case
ocz Psu 630w 80+
asrock 990fx extreme3
amd fx-4100 3,6mhz stock (OC 4,48)
corsair vengeance 1600Mhz
ocz agility SSD sata3
Radeon hd 7770 Ghz edition

thank you guys a bunch.. this is higher learning for me biggrin.gif:thumb:biggrin.gif:thumb:

I was prett y sure 5 beeps was vga,but you said you tried another gpu so I didn't second guess it. You still have beeps you still have something wrong.Get a hdmi /dvi adapter. Also look in the OCN AMD CPU section for FX overclocking guides thumb.gif

When you changed the RAM speed it didn't like it.....Now is the time to reset the BIOS.

have reset it.. the mobo is dead from ht link frequency change.. switched to an extreme3 990fx.
works a little better i think. but is unable to overclock as well. got to 4,6 with way higher Volts 1.53 i think.. gets kind of warm smile.gifredface.gif

i like the 770 better for overclocking freq, but it seems like the 990 is doing a better job on lower cpu freq, so I guess it wins... id rather have 770 though.

am trying to change dram freq from 1500 something to 1888 Mhz. it was running at around 900Mhz (450 in cpu-z) at default changed it and put the dram voltage to 1.65. it did not funktion well.
im guessing you should leave the dram freq at auto and change the timings to higher, and boost the voltage? could you have a reason to go to 1..7- 1.8 V or higher?
heard some people get up to almost 2 volts (1,9) without starting a fire or nothing. is that resonably safe?
