[KT] Sony is Suing Kevin Butler. - Page 9

The only entity hurting sales for the Sony brand, let alone the Playstation brand is Sony themselves. The company has gotten so big that product lines function almost as separate corporations competing against each other. There is no sense or organization, communication at all.

I want to sue Sony for making me thing I can remote play my PS3 games on the vita.

Sony is getting by with money earned in its prime. There is no revolutionary or industry-leading product line from Sony at all. Their TVs are well nowhere near as nice as Samsung. Their phones, don't stand a chance in the heat of competition. Only reason playstation is still here is because the cost for someone else to enter the market is simply too high, with MS as the only real rival. Lets be honest, xbox is much more popular than playstation. Their cameras are a joke. Hopefully these guys get their act together soon. It's just one failed product after another.

Can't believe Bond is going to use Sony in the next movie....do they honestly believe people will go out and buy Sony phones? It didn't happen with the last 2 movies...what makes them think it will work this time when the competition is 100x stronger? I mean, can't have been cheap to make Bond use your phone.

Next up, Sony requires everyone in competing commercials to be totally naked, because by wearing clothes, someone might be able to figure out who made them and that could be from a company that Sony doesn't like.

As far as my hate for Sony, that goes back much farther that this. Much of it stems from SoE and how they have totally screwed over paying and loyal customers by needlessly shutting down games, or taking developers away from games, or in the games of some games that were up for sale from other companies (simply buying them and doing nothing with them just so another company wouldn't buy them and turn them around so they could compete with Sony).

Then there is their whole Play Station hacks and credit card information loss.

But really, my "disliking" of Sony started years ago, when they sued a restaurant owner, who's name was Sony, and he opened a restaurant called "Sony" and they sued him. As if ANYONE could confuse the electronics company from a place that makes food.

Restaurant says 'so long' to 'Sony' name
Quote:
The name "Sony" disappeared from Sony Florendo's Philippine-Asian restaurants yesterday -- the one in Harborplace and the one in Owings Mills, plus the banquet hall on Belair Road and the corporate offices on Park Avenue.

..

The name change is part of the deal Mrs. Florendo reached with electronics manufacturer Sony Corp. in 1987 to drop the $2.9 million lawsuit it had filed against her for alleged trademark infringement, unfair competition and deliberate confusion of /^ consumers.

Weather you like Sony or not, it sounds like their case is legit and not vague at all...
The face of a campaign is trademarked.

The T-mobile girl who stars in all of their adds cannot all of a sudden go for advertising Verizon, or clearly seen holding a verizon phone, Tim Cooks using an Android phone etc.
There is a 100% chance it is specified so in their contract, with enough penalties to make breaking this agreement not worthy at all.
Even if the dude gets away with it, it will be him manipulating the system and acting childish, not Sony.
I bet he was dearly paid for playing along with Sony. Even if the actual damage is "negligible", he should be punished just as dearly.

Man, this thread is amazing, this whole forum is amazing....

Sony sues someone, for something extremely trivial, and people here say it is OK. Even though there is almost zero chance of damage being caused to Sony, and we can only speculate on what the contract between the actor and Sony said. For all we know it could simply say "You may not endorse any competitors product", and in that case since this is a TIRE commercial, he is safe. We just don't know.

Yet, when Apple sues someone the world comes to a grinding halt and they are decried as Satan. Beaten down and destroyed by the forum members, who won't accept speculation, only fact.

As far as I am concerned Sony's lawsuit is just as trivial as most of Apple's lawsuits. I don't care how you twist it, the commercial was for tires, the vast majority was around selling tires. The commercial was paid for by Bridgestone, for their tires, in order to try and sell tires.

Because....it was a tire commercial, not a Wii commercial!

EDIT Again: Oh! All the people standing behind the "Well, it was in his contract, Sony has a legal right to sue...", you now have absolutely no say or valid input on any Apple lawsuit. As, technically, they have every legal right to sue for Patents they hold! At this point there can be no more "Well Apple is xxxx, for suing over yyyyy", because they have a LEGAL right to do it!

My point? Just because you have a legal right to do something doesn't mean you should do it. Legal Right =/= Moral Right.

Xbox 360's sales lead PlayStation 3 by roughly 5 million units. Given that the PlayStation 3 launched a year later, had a much higher price point (and still does), featured an online service that wasn't (and still isn't) as robust as Xbox Live and lacks AAA IP that perform as well as Microsoft's, I'd say the PlayStation brand is pretty strong to remain so close.

That brand also encompasses two handhelds with combined sales of around 75 million units, with the PSP being the first ever non-Nintendo handheld to have that kind of success, beating its nearest competitor (Sega Game Gear) nearly 7 to 1.

There's no arguing that Xbox has grown tremendously, but in an age where big third-party exclusives (which is what made PlayStation) are a thing of the past (and where there's significantly more overlap with consoles and PC), Sony's done a pretty good job of getting their consoles into folks' living rooms; PlayStation as a brand remains quite popular.

The patent system being utterly broken has nothing to do with someone willfully signing a contract and then breaking it. One is broken and borderline useless, the other was done with full consent. You can't compare the two at all.

I make no claim to knowing Jerry's contract, but, if that is the case, Sony has every right to sue. Jerry signed on the dotted line and knew the consequences.

Wrong!

Doesn't matter!

Not one bit!

This is your opinion!

This logic of "The system is broken to screw it", doesn't work with anything else. "Well marijuana is illegal, but that is a broken system, so I am going to sell it anyways" doesn't get you anywhere. Why do Apple haters think the same logic can work for them though? Just because you don't like the legal system around a topic doesn't change the fact it is the LEGAL system that governs the area of debate.

It doesn't matter if you think the system is broken or not, Apple has a LEGAL right to sue for their LEGALLY protected ideas and property! So if Sony can sue because they have a LEGAL right to do it, why can't Apple sue when they have the SAME LEGAL right?
