Except you you have to memorize every thing, there are now slide out tabs in the corner to indicate any thing is there. unless ms included a regular front end with it. IF he can't even operate xp or 7 i'd have no problem betting any money i have (if i had any) that he would struggle with Modern UI.

Even though My Gait is monthly at least look in to, maybe they have a trial. I have Worked with elderly people before and they seem to like My Gait.

I hear gentoo is great for the tech illiterate.

I joke but seriously whoever said chromeOS is smart. You would need to buy a chromebox/book but they are cheap. My chromebook is the easiest most fuss free computer ever. There is no real setup and it is very intuitive.
