I've Gigabyte Z77 D3H motherboard and i5 3570K CPU, I want to overclock the chip to 4.5GHz, but I don't know where to start, here's my BIOS settings on default,

i have the same mobo smile.gif
but with 3770k ..

for 4.5ghz i did this,

cpu/pci base clock 100 (set by hand is better)
cpu clock ratio 45

dont use the xmp profile, reset it,
only set, system memory multiplier 16

vcore loadline calibration Turbo
just put Tur in the box and hit enter,
leave the rest on auto

Cpu vcore, put Normal in there, if you want to use offset,
which i did, now this is tricky for me,
i dont know good/best settings for the 3570k,
for me a +0.020V offset was more then enough to be stable..

if you dont want to use offset, and have a fixed vcore,
just put it in the cpu vcore box, 1.25V was my startingpoint

cpu pll, 1.8 in the box, or you can try lower it a bit,
it can help make a oc stable, and lower temps a little,
I have it set as low as 1.5V

dram voltage you can leave on auto for now, i upped mine from 1.5v to 1.510v,
i thought it might help if i oc the blck , but i left it alone with other oc's

hope it helps a bit smile.gif

Sorry for asking so many questions, just started to look into overclocking the chip,

Do I go straight to 4.5GHz or go up by a little at a time?

Set back to default 1333MHz and set System Memory Multiplier to 16?

What does VCore Loadline Calibration do?

Offset is when you choose the CPU VCore?

What does +0.020V offset mean? Also what's the difference between Offset and Fixed VCore?

So I change CPU VCore from 1.210V to 1.250V? What does CPU PLL do? So I take off Auto on CPU PLL and do it maunally so I can control it?

lol @Xinoxide,

well, looking at all the questions,
you might be better of to read some guides..like this one,
hes using a gigabyte mobo also,
so the bios pic's look the same too

http://www.overclock.net/t/1247413/ivy-bridge-overclocking-guide-with-ln2-guide-at-the-end

indeed, dont do anything till you read up a little ...lol
i did alot of reading before i did my first oc attempt,
the guide i mention above really helped me alot..
i should have asked more before just put up settings, voltages etc

Look,

Before posting many screen shots and asking a bunch of questions refer to these:

http://www.overclock.net/t/1198504/complete-overclocking-guide-sandy-bridge-ivy-bridge-asrock-edition

http://www.overclock.net/t/1291703/ivy-bridge-overclocking-guide-asus-motherboards

They are both great guides that explains a lot of things. Don't be afraid to mess with things. Hardware is very resilient these days. Just don't jump to an extreme.

Then after reading and doing what you can, if you run into problems, or want to ask questions. Then you ask. Overclocking takes learning. You need to learn first before asking questions. If we just tell you what to set without you learning anything, then you have learned nothing.

yea, normally you leave blck at 100 with these processors.. smile.gif

Also,

If all you are wanting is a 4.5ghz overclock if you have a decent cooler, you can most likely level vcore on auto or position it slightly above 1.25vcore and set your ratio/multiplier to 45. And you'll be good to go.
