This is the 7th card that I am going to have to RMA now in the space of just over a year! - Page 11

As one who has owned many ATI/AMD cards(back to Rage cards) and 3DFX/Nvidia cards(all the way back RivaTNT) I can say I have never had as many problems as some say. That is with either company. I was around when ATI/AMD did have horrible drivers and sometimes they make a quick revision that really sucks but then they fix it. I was around when Nvidia had horrible looking graphics but they were faster but they fixed it. I have only had one major hardware problem since my early Vesa Local bus Trident cards.

So that being said, the only thing I can say is everything is now made in China. It doesn' matter the company it is mostly made in China. That is why all of our toys break so easily now a days.
Everything is made by the same people in the same place. They don't have to make it any better because that is where the manufacturing plants are and if you want to mass produce something you send it over there. No offense to the country or it's people it is just the facts. I'm not against the Chinese people and I couldn't care less where stuff is made as long as we get quality stuff. It is just that when everything is made in one place quaity suffers. It's like only having one care maker. If you have to have a car(nobody really has to own a car) and there is only one company how many lemons do you think would be out there?

To answer your question "I don't really know but my guess and opinion is this. When you only have a few places to go to manufacture the product, you may not always get the best quality."

Any other suggestions before I RMA? An electrician did the wiring about 20 years ago (I was just talking with my dad) so I doubt its something to do with the power coming into the computer. Just bad luck I guess! redface.gif The 6950 series consumes more power, however the card I bought never, ever produced any problems like this.

Look at your breaker and see how many circuits you have.

Crap, you already sent back the amd card? I was going to ask if you tried reinstalling the drivers without driver sweeper. I've read accounts of people who said that once they stopped using driver sweeper, their problems stopped.

If it's a 69** series card..Do a clean install and use 11.5-11.9 drivers.

An excessive amount of returns denotes a problem somewhere else (or, the vast amount of the time, with layer 8).

If your claiming the problem is my fault, why not be more suggestive and actually try and help me?

I have tried nearly every suggestion on the thread and by the manufacturer of the card, asus. The technician I was speaking to claimed that something must be up with the card when I told him every step I went through.

I should also mention that this problem only recently started developing. Due to my educational commitments, I did not have an opportunity to vigorously test the graphics card but I played black mesa source when it first came out for about 7 hours or so. It played fine for the most part HOWEVER, I did notice some weird stripy lines in place where a reflection should have been . It could have well been the card, or considering the game is a community based mod, just the game (however I later reloaded the stage just to check, and it did not occur)

i dont need to restate what has already been mentioned in the thread.

A high turnover rate of one component indicates something else is to blame. It's like replacing a car battery several times and complaining about it when in the end, a faulty alternator was to blame.

Technicians can only do so much over the phone. It has to be something with your setup. Did you tell him you were also on your 7th card?

But another suggestion: change Catalyst AI to Quality (vs. performance). That actually still filters textures despite in game settings which was my experience with Mech Warrior Online.

You also mention wiring being done 20 years ago? That's a long time, and standards change at least in the US.

To ensure optimal power to my rig I even run a APC SmartUPS SU1000NET which acts as a power conditioner when it's online. It filters out low voltage and high voltage conditions from the mains. It honestly gives me peace of mind that the power being delivered is clean. Eliminates the fundamental issues in regards to system stability. And to show for it my hardware has lasted years. This is probably overkill but meh.
