Whick bios were you on when you tried to flash? The same one you booted on?

headscratch.gif Doesn't it have a disclaimer stating that it will take a few minutes? You should have had a bowl of cereal! tongue.gif

Right. But what position was the switch in when you attempted to flash?

I believe this is the reference bios for a Sapphire 6950

Ok now what you have to do is download HP USB Disk Format Storage Utility
http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/file.php?f=197

and also download ATIFlash not WinFlash
http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/Utilities/BIOS_Flashing/ATI/

Format your USB and turn it into a Windows 98 Boot Disk
Place the ATIFlash.exe onto the USB
And the bios onto to the USB
and rename the bios from it's original name to bios.exe

-start up your computer and boot from your USB
-Type ATIFlash Press Enter
-Keep pressing enter until you can type again
-ATIflash -Unlockrom 0 Press Enter
-Then type ATIFlash -f -p 0 bios.exe Press Enter

This will force the bios onto the card and put it back to stock.

Do you know if you flashed an unlocked 6950 or a 6970 bios to your card? If you flashed a 6970 bios (I think most did this) then you are describing to me the eventual problems that having the memory timings being off causes. The damage is permanent afaik. If you used your bios and just unlocked the shaders and re uploaded it then restoring the bios won't fix the issue because running the extra shaders only wouldn't have caused this issue.

Just flipping the switch and running the factory bios should be enough to tell you if the damage is permanent or not. Just check in gpu-d or whatever it's called to see you have the right shaders.

I only used a modified bios to unlock shaders. The clock was still running at 800 mhz and memory was at 1250mhz. hmm one of the cards I bought used so i'm wandering if the previous owner flashed to the 6970 bios then changed it back?!? Any how I will try what the folks above me mentioned. Oh, and I got the stock bios from the switch 2 position and switched to the 1 position then did the flash

Ok. Sounds like you were doing everything correct. Try, what Socks said, and if that doesn't work, then I guess you just have 2 6950s. :(

I think I got it flashed. I used the bios that socks gave me and both switches are reading the stock shaders. I just don't get why the cards could be damaged if I only unlocked shaders.
