New Bios update for gigabyte HD7950 ! - Page 71

Thanks man.

I will test it in the weekend if I get around to it. I also found a russian page where the author claims it's possible to change the fixed voltage values, he warns especially about the Gigabyte Bioses though. The VRM's don't send the same value compared to the bios code, this should not be a problem because we want to lower the voltage smile.gif

Edit: Our cards are mentioned at paragraph #9.

If I run a boost bios, I can change the 1.25v to 1.18 v (which is what I need to be 1100mhz OCCT stable).
{FYI, To find errors on radeon 7950
OCCT v 4.3.2 DX10 custom 360 x 360 res, shader 5, error check ON, fps limit 0 }

Only problem, with f3, fz0, fz1, the VRM's get way hotter! 105/90 instead of the f43 , 90/90 in occt (20 Amps VRM current in in both cases using +20% pt).

I don't get why the VRM's are so much hotter, even though it's using the same power.

I used another russian page to edit the voltages
http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?depth=2&hl=en&ie=UTF8&prev=_t&rurl=translate.google.com&sl=auto&tl=en&u=http://people.overclockers.ru/test2013/17506/Upravlyaem_napryazheniem_videokart_AMD_HD_7_serii_cherez_redaktirovanie_BIOS&usg=ALkJrhhhliPP0MQ_DtOjRPuwXMAbkOOScA

I changed the first highest value E2 04 to A4 04, and the number next to it to 8D 00.
It doesn't work on the F43 however, it ends up being stuck at 500 mhz/0.95v

As the occt site no longer has 4 3 2 and the newer one doesnt seem to catch errors for me as fast, here you go.

http://www.sendspace.com/file/3x17o1

Just tried the 4.4.0 new one again, dx11 its called instead of dx10, it works ok to catch errors too.. make sure powertune is maxed out.

{Edit: removed bios- I have a lead on making the multimon run different voltage... stand by!}
For those who can use F43, I made a boost bios that works with our cards and keeps hdmi. It's FZ1 with some tweaks that I saw in a newer sapphire vaporx boost bios:

-1.18 v for boost state, much better, use CCC to set that speed. I use 1100 as it is stable at that voltage for me in occt. If you use MSI AB, the voltage doesn't work, it just adjusts the 925 mhz state voltage...(see below to what I mean).

At power tune -10, there is some great behavior. In high load situations, like OCCT stress test...
Instead of using 1.18 v @ rated speed (1000 and up- i use 1100) , it uses a second "normal" state, which I set in bios to 925mhz @ 1.038 v. (you can change that voltage with MSI AB, but not the 1..18 v one)
Much less power use and yet, more fps than my old F43 @1100/1.18v- as the powertune would throttle then.

fz1 mod- pt -10% 925 with no throttle in my test, 1350 fps, max 15 amps @ 12v VRM in = about 180 watts.

1100 with f43, pt +20%, throttling between 850-950, around 1250 fps, max 19 amps @ 12v VRM in= about 228 watts.

More FPS at high load, because this bios can use a lower state that needs less voltage!

The UVD clock is 601/601 @ 0.95v, works fine and takes less power than stock 500/1250.

Dual monitor uses 602 mhz, ram speed is stuck to what you set it to in CCC/AB. But now, instead of using 3d voltage, it uses 0.95 v! Much less power usage, similar to UVD- Can't find out how to make the ram lower for it, but no big deal with that.

No luck with this fz1 bios, I say forget it. Problem is when you switch multimon back to single, catalyst driver forgets about powertune, and it is flat out. If my card goes past 23 amps or so VRM current in, screen goes blank (over current protection).

I'm working on tweaking the f43 instead. So far I found that the 0.95v for uvd/second state can do up to 760 mhz on my bios stable under full load (shows max 10a, vrm current in). Also no powertune bug, it sticks, even when doing multimon and back... so it was a fz1 issue.

Powertune now is showing promising results. If I turn it way back to 10 or so, it doesn't kill fps anymore in occt... instead of using full 3d volts, when the pt throttles back it uses the 750mhz/0.95v that I set up for UVD state. Much better power use.... and UVD at 750 uses same power as it did at 500 or 600... voltage is what matters for power use. To have the clock higher, allows the Powertune to use this clock more often, as 500 was far too low to be considered by the driver/bios.

If someone wants the fz1 bios PM me, but for now I don't want to post it because I was having my own issues with it- overcurrent on this card is pretty low compared to the other GB 7950 I had before (which had a way lower asic, 66% instead of now 76%... I read that higher asics don't like as much current/voltage!)

So... is the gigabyte cards now voltage locked, is there any way around this? What about memory voltage?

Ok here's my FZ1 3 state bios back and I found out a small bug that was blocking powertune.
Now it's officially a super power saver bios, with great performance and doesn't trip overcurrent for me.

BTW, with this bios, it has really high powertune levels - as you can see in occt tests, so use around 8%, works great and more fps than I got with f43 set to +20% (see below). Go too high in PT and you can hit overcurrent, black screen and have to reboot.

For those who can use F43, I made a boost bios that works with our cards and keeps hdmi. It's FZ1 with some tweaks that I saw in a newer sapphire vaporx boost bios:

I have a 76% ASIC, so your results may vary:

Much less power use and yet, more fps than my old F43 @1100/1.18v- as the powertune would throttle then.

fz1 mod- pt 8% 925 with no throttle in my test, 1350 fps, avg 16 amps @ 12v VRM in = about 180 watts.

1100 with f43, pt +20%, throttling between 850-950, around 1250 fps, avg 19 amps @ 12v VRM in= about 228 watts.

More FPS at high load, because this bios can use a lower state that needs less voltage!

The UVD clock is 750/750 @ 0.95v, works fine and takes less power than stock 500/1250. The 750 @ 0.95v is also full 3d stable at heat... the card uses 751mhz, when you turn powertune down a lot in occt... pretty cool now that these states are closer to eachother (750/925/1100)

If below 1650 ram multimon uses 401 mhz. If above 1650 mhz ram, dual monitor uses 602 mhz, ram speed is stuck to what you set it to in CCC/AB. But now, instead of using 3d voltage, it uses 0.95 v! Much less power usage, similar to UVD- Can't find out how to make the ram lower for it, but no big deal with that... it's stuck to what you set in ccc/3d. gig7950V-FZ1modforthosewithf43-f2.zip 40k .zip file

So... can you change the new gigabyte 7950s so that they support voltage? What about memory voltage? Do the new gigabytes use hynix or elpida, and do they have VRM temp sensors?

Try f43, see if that works. use dos atiflash -f -p 0 blabla.f43.
1.6v ram on that one
dont know what memory they use
my 6+6 that came w f43 has hynix..does 1670 at 1.5v and has vrm monitoring
