Borderlands 2 can not be maxed with playable FPS, aside from that every other game plays fine. Although not the FPS one would expect from a 580, at least its playable on all high. What I mean is FPS doesn't go over 100 all that much, doesn't dip below 30 much either (unless BF3 lots of things going on)
Save up, invest in a new platform. Q6600 was the 2500k of its day. Time to move on!

Hmmm. Borderlands 2 runs fine for me at 1080p, no issues with that game. BF3 can get a little choppy, like you said , if things are getting busy. My CPU isn't OC, nor can I unless I replace the stock HS/Fan. I thought about getting one to extend the life a little but I'm just going to upgrade in a few months. Need to get that NewEgg account balance down, kinda abused that thing blushsmiley.gif

Cleaned and I also fixed the paragraph so that it's a little easier to read wink.gif.

Thanks bro thumb.gif. Sorry about the run on paragraph. Typing without thinking about structure. Haven't posted on a forum in some time. Didn't realize people would get so upset.

I don't think you really need to upgrade. For most of my games I use the Task manager and set them to High Priority. This makes them run a little bit better. Also my GTX 480 is overclocked so that's another added bonus. However games like ArmA II and occasionally GTA 4 still kicks my computer's butt. Sleeping Dogs pushes my video card to it's limits. Literally. But it runs really smooth and rarely lags. Skyrim runs really well with the HD DLC and 2k Texture pack mod and everything maxed. GTA 4 however will never get to 50 fps for me unless I turn the settings down to console levels. The Witcher 2 runs maxed with ubersampling on at a steady 60 FPS and rarely lags. Usually if it does lag then the FPS goes from 60 to 30. Borderlands 2 runs really smooth maxed out and Metro 2033 doesn't lag one bit maxed out either. I think you need a better video card. You'll see a good improvement. Preferably one that has more than 1GB of vram. At 1080p games like the ones I just named will go up to and over 1GB. Skyrim uses all of my video card's memory within a few minutes of play, and GTA 4 has used up to 1.3 GB of memory. I'd recommend a GTX 570 and above. But my GTX 480 is still kicking butt biggrin.gif

Here is how much of a difference you'll see if you upgrade to sandybridge from your q6600

You'll be also able to test out the texture mods that are available for games to make the games look better.

if you really want to a nice looking game checkout project cars... wink.gif. It hands down is the best looking game. Below is actually a screenshot of the game(not tampered with or photoshopped).Game though isn't very GPU friendly but sure looks nice tongue.gif

Ok. I'll start from the top (what others have said is true, but I digress).

1. I think you're mixing art direction into technical "graphics". I have a PS3, and I (at one point) had it connected to my monitor (see sig - Base2) that I use for PC gaming. I then proceeded to play Uncharted 2 as a "PC" game - i.e. I was the same distance from the screen that I usually am when playing BF3, Crysis, etc.

By comparison, Uncharted 2 looked like trash. The texture quality was aweful, and the aliasing was even worse. On top of that the object quality and LOD made everything look like trash. The 30fps, while it is consistent, felt like sluggish at best (felt like peanut butter).

Now, on the other hand, the art direction is GREAT. The lighting is nice, the use of depth of field and so on is also extremely good.

This is essentially what the PS3 renders:
uncharted2+Screen+1.jpg
Jaggies everywhere. Low res textures, low res meshes, etc.

Meanwhile, on PC:

(Done in the CE3 free SDK)

2. What to upgrade? The CPU. Find yourself a P67 motherboard and a 2500k. That will get you to a constant 60FPS in essentially every game.
