Hard Drives running extremely hot. Any advice?

Thread Starter
So I think I've got quite a problem on my hands. I have a Western Digital 7500AAYS and 3200AAJS in my system now. For the past 3 days or so they have been running extremely hot (greater than 60 C) when I'm playing games. Both of them are doing it and before this they were running around 25-30 C all day.

I know for a fact that this can not be good. What I'm wondering is does it have anything to do with my motherboard? I recently sent an RMA request to Gigabyte because I found that some of the CPU socket pins had melted, resulting in some damage to my CPU. Now I have a Gigabyte P55-UD3R running an overclocked i5 750 @4.0Ghz. Its water cooled so heat was never really an issue.

Just wondering if someone can shed some light on this for me. Thanks.

I would think the drives can take the heat, I'm not sure what is wrong with it, but you could always mount a fan near the drives, or get a water block for your drives (not really recommended)

better ventilation.

when you play games, are your hard drives doing anything or not? Really, the only heat generated is from the motor spinning or the head moving around for an extended period of time. Launch a game, open up Resource Monitor via task manager and monitor the disk activity. What is using it? the page file (not enough RAM?).

Unless your mobo is causing some kind of unnecessary hard drive thrashing I dobut that's the cause.

My guess, in case temps rise during gaming from video card and CPU, poor ventilation causing HDs to heat up.

I'm not sure how airflow would be a problem if this just started happening 3 days ago. The year and a half its been running prior to this I haven't had this problem. Either way I have an intake fan blowing right on the HDDs.

Dude do you have any idea what you just said?

That's like going to a forum for BMWs and saying "Dude you're not using high enough octane, you're only using 91, the BMW website says

Minimum octane rating: 91"

That would be my guess as well. If there is any issues with heat, it will be my drives. I have 4 stacked on top of each other.
