power supply help for my wc setup

Hi there I have a quick question, I am doing a crazy build basically it's two pcs in a desk on one loop. So I'm gonna put a third power supply for just lighting and water equipment witch consists of three pumps 18 fans on three rads. What I want to know is can I use this cheapo power supply that came out of a pre built pc I'd say it's somewhere between 300-450 watts. No labels lol.the reason for three pumps is I have a restrictive loop and one pump is the cheap 750 in the xspc dual bay res and the decent pump in the swiftech rad. But had horrible flow so I ordered a swiftech 655 d5 style pump.ill try to put a pic any help on psu would be awesome.

Based on my thinking that SHOULD be fine, however, how old is the PSU in question?

I'd say the psu is about 2yrs old. I actually have a few of those crappy. Ones lol. Also the way I figured I'd run it is put a toggle style switch on the green and black wires to turn psu on since I don't want to run both pc's at all times

Do you know the saying that a chain is only as strong as its weakest link? Well, here is a perfect example.

Cheap power supplies have a much higher chance of letting a power surge through to your components, or sending a surge when one of the components of the PSU go POP. You are taking a much higher chance of killing your pumps and fans with a cheap PSU than with a good one.

Only you can decide if the risk is acceptable. If it is, go ahead, use the cheap PSU.

There is also the problem of slaving the loop PSU to the PSUs in your computers. Are you sure you can't simply hook to a lead in the PC?

Exactly what are you running off each PSU?

A 'CHEAP' psu is asking for FAIL!

I deffenatly haven't done yet lol. This is my fear say my wife decided to use a pc and doesn't turn both on one would surely overheat lol. Right now it's all hooked up to my ax1200. And proton made a great point. What if I just hook up the toggle to the ax1200 and make sure she knows to toggle it lol. And obviously my computer wouldn't turn on unless it was toggled. Or would say a third say ax600 be enough for pumps and fans. I am making sure to ask questions since there is about 15 grand worth of components. Took a long time to get. And I never felt safe with cheap psu. Just didn't know for sure how much stress the wc equipment could use. I put some pic's in my profile so u guys can see what I'm working with any help is much appreciated

Hey july1300 any pics of your setup? and what components are you running?

Do you have the option to remove/replace the bay res and pump (the XSPC one you have is not renown for its performance)

Is your Koolance 480 really that restrictive? Get something better.

I was actually looking tonight online for new res and rad. The 480 pretty restrictive I can barely blow water out when flushing. That xspc pump pretty bad. In my pics in my profile has some pics of this build. Can't seem to figure out how to link pics in my replys but been using my cell phone lol. When I'm done and pc working again I'll try and attempt a build log. I took lots of pics smile.gif
