Renegade SVCHOST

Thread Starter
Hey I have come up with a problem with SVCHOST.exe in my task manager.

The problem is that on boot up, SVCHOST.exe gobbles up loads of resources, taking up 99% of the CPU, eating upto 128mbs of ram, and creating 90+ threads. This problem is easily taken care of by ending the task, but sometimes, this disables the sound, and turns the windows xp ui into the windows 98 ui

Any solutions?

svchost.exe is a system process belonging to the Microsoft Windows Operating System which handles processes executed from DLLs. This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated. but if it is constantly at 100% then your system is infected and there is RPC buffer overflow. to fix this first update your windows to sp2 and get all the latest updates then using a firewall block outbound connections from ports TCP and UDP ports 135, 137, 138, 139, 445 and 593 .
then run a antispyware check and a anti virus in safe mode

my computer has sp2 and every possible update from that point.
I have IE7, WM11, everything, an active Norton which has already scanned for problems, and found my system completely clean, which is should be because I only install software that is store bought or nice and squeaky clean from download.com, and if it isnt from there, I make sure other people have not recieved anything bad from it.

besides, where did you get this information to block those ports?
