7970 Crossfire OC problem

Thread Starter
Hey guys,

I currently have an Asus 7970 DirectCu II TOP and a Sapphire 7970 Vapor -X Ghz Edition in crossfire and I am wondering how to go about overclocking them. More specifically, can I have them in different clocks or do they always have to be synchronized? If they do, does that mean both their voltages need to be the same also? The DC2T has 1.112V Vcore and 1.6V mem (1000 core, 1400 mem) whereas my Vapor-X has 1.26V Vcore and 1.5V mem(1050 core, 1500 mem).

yes every thing has to run the same..they share data..they can be different speeds out of the box but both cards run at the speed of the slowest card you have

Sorry but does that also mean same voltages?

Err what? The cards won't just auto correct their clocks to sync with each other. If you have two cards with two different clocks you will most likely get micro stutter problems. You need have both cards clocked with the same clocks to avoid this. Whether u use ccc/trixx/ab to do it is up to you but both need to be the same clock. Voltage wise they can be different.

Vsync has nothing to do with micro stutter. Vsync takes care of tearing. Micro stutter would be induced by the cards running at two different speeds since frame rendering would not be equal on both cards, thus you can incur frame delays and such.

Speeds should be the same, voltages can be whatever's needed to keep those speeds stable.

correct. clock speeds should match for the best performance. voltages will differ from one chip to another .

Vsync syncs both cards to run the same speed.. It also matches fps to your monitors native refresh rate.unless that's just nvidia..I turn vsync on when I oc my cards cause I clock card one and it applies it to both..
