450 gts cooler on stock 550 ti

Thread Starter
My dad traded me a 550 ti for my MSI 450GTS CYCLONE card, since he only needed a card for bluray playback.

Now I have the 550 ti clocked up to 1060 on the core and 2200 on the Memory, and the load temps are getting a little high for my liking at around 80 Celsius. (the load temp is while running msi kombustor, while gaming the load temp is at around 70-75 Celsius)

So my question is, how hard would it be to switch the cyclone cooler to the 550ti, also would the 550 ti stock cooler fit on the 450 gts.

are you sure about that from some reading I have done after posting the question, it seams that the 550 uses the same stock cooler as the 450. Of course I can't find the link to that article now that I look for it mad.gif

Are the cards the same size.. do the screws that hold the cooler on in the same places on the PCB on both cards?

Sorry for taking so long to get back, real life has made me forget all about this.

Today I decided to change the tim on my card, and for lols I grabbed the 450. The holes where in the same place, and the two boards looked almost identical so I swapped the coolers.

Load temps on the 550 ti have gone down to 57C while running kombustor. So a 23 degree drop in temps when all said and done

EDIT: Also after seeing the mess of tim that are on cards from the factory, I have decide to change the tim on every card I get in the future.

update:
I have the core up to 1100MHz at a load temp of 58C in kombustor

I'm going to push it up higher once the tim has a chance to break in (using artic silver 5)
