New gaming rig - Need help in choosing parts pls - Page 4

there is a service from Singapore Post called vPost to provide a mailing address in US and Japan and let you order from shops there, then SingPost will mail it back to Singapore for you

for dvd burners, i myself prefer LG, cheap and reliable, such as the GSA-10 series
http://sg.hardwarezone.com/priceguid...d=169&id=16393 - SGD 65

btw, i thought all (or most, i'm not very sure) 8800 are bbn (built by nvidia), so which manufacturer doesn't really matter rit? (except asus)

- Crucial 2x1 GB Kit TY2KIT12864AA663 : easy to OC

HDD __________: 3 X Maxtor 320GB STM3320620AS Serial ATA II/16MB = 960 GB

Optical Storage _: DVD Writer [don't know what brand to choose]
- Plextor PX 760-SA : too expensive for its worth (by chiu2000)
- Samsung SH-S182D : not reliable (by chiu2000)
- LG GSA-H10N : cheap, good and as good as Plextor's, if not better (by chiu2000)

Mobo _________: ASUS P5W DH Deluxe
- ASUS P5W64 WS Professional : OCs the CPU better than ASUS P5W DH Deluxe
- ASUS P5B Deluxe
- eVGA nForce 680i SLi 775 Mainboard : better OC'ing power than 975 mobos and SLi capability puts this better than 975/965s (opinion by 'Namrac')

P.S.U._________: 700 W [don't know what brand to choose]
- OCZ GamerXtream 700W

Confirmed (not ordrered, just 99% confident decision) components :
- Processor

- RAM

TO BUY BY : End of 2006

RIG Usage : Intense Gaming, Intense Image editing and 3D-Modelling &/or animation, (not sure) video rendering

BUDGET : Singapore Dollars $4000 (or US$2,567.3943 as of 1214 hrs GMT+8)
Location of purchase : US / Singapore / Hong Kong

Other requirements :
1. Mobo minimum OC'ability to 3.6 GHz, optimally 4.0 GHz, dream 4.5 GHz
2. As fast as possible without being too expensive, of course with OC'ability
3. Mobo support possible SLi solutions in the future
4. RIG should last approx. 3 years
5. Mobo should optimally have WiFi, but not ultimately compulsory
6. Cooling allows good CPU and GFX OC'ability such that I won't fry my foot when I put it on top of my CPU; max phase-change, no water-cooling (unless really cheap)
7. DVD Writer don't need new optical compatibilty now (BluRay & HD disc)
8. Must have DX10 compatibility
9. P.S.U. of course supports the above mentioned hardware, if possible including SLi solution support
10. ...others, can't think of any more at the moment

Some discussions :
1. My friend says Nvidia 8800GTX is overkill even for Intel C2E X6800
2. Quite a number of discussions show ASUS P5B & Gigabyte DQ6/DS4 mobos OC'ing betterthan ASUS P5W mobos.
3. Most, if not all, top mobos on Futuremark's ORB use P5W DH Deluxe
4. What's so good about solid capacitors over the usual?
5. Is 2x1GB or 4x512MB RAM better?
6. Does it really make a really significant difference if I get a sound card or use high-end mobos integrated Audio?
7. Does processor batch matter in OC'ability?
8. ...others, can't think of any more at the moment

I appeal to the generous and helpful Overclock.net community to help me build my new rig. Any recommendations, comments about this configuration? All are appreciated. THANKS wonderful Overclock.net in advance.
If it were me, I would:

1. Change the HDDs to 4 250GB SATA HDDs, or 4 160GB.
2. Get this Viewsonic LCD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824116381

Get the Intel Quad Core

Then tell us about it and we will compare notes and mine will always be better! lol

But you keep yours Sadly I must sell what I build

Or you could buy this.........Quad everything PC I haven't built one yet but I seen a similar version a few months back and it was great!

i wish. those will be too expensive already. =.=||

ksimp88, why is it u say 4x250 gb better? i dont think its just the extra 40gb, cos 960 gb is more than enough already.

just wondering, why many LCDs you guys recommend can only do WS 1680x1050? i would really like 1600x1200 resolution as i already have the WS resolution mentioned.

Using 4 HDDs in RAID is faster than 3 in RAID.
Well, here's a decent set of 1600x1200 monitors:
