Hi everyone, i've been considering to buy a PS3 for a long time, but always decided to upgrade my PC with the money instead, so is it actually worth investing in?

EDIT: I currently have the money to buy one right now.
Now i can't use AMD cards :(

If you are a serious gamer & there are plenty of games the PS3 has exclusively, go ahead...What are you waiting for? There's nothing wrong having both PC & PS3 wink.gif

I'm about to buy a console (360 or PS3) strictly for fighting games & sports cuz the PC world had let me down for their lack of support in those genres. If you're that uncertain, I believe that you are trying to force yourself to find a reason to buy it whistle.gif

If you know it will be troublesome, why bother considering it? If you already had a usable tv/monitor and you know what exclusive games you will play on it, then I would say go for it.

I own a PS3 and I'm going to say no, because I'm fairly sure next gen consoles are about 1 year away at the most (ie: right in time for a Christmas 2013 launch).
also, if your mointor has an HDMI port, you can plug your PS3 into that and just be done with it.

Gaming is an experience and that's all life is really, experiences. So why limit your enjoyment of experiences to one particular platform? I say get a ps3 and then upgrade your pc a little later. There are plenty of great games on ps3 like vanquish, uncharted, god of war, catherine, resistance, gundam vs, heavy rain, little big planet, mlb12 the show and etc etc. I have a pretty high end gaming rig that I buy most multiplatform games for, but the exclusives on consoles have provided me with tons of fun. With a ps3 so cheap now, I see no reason to deny yourself so many wonderful gaming experiences. Sure plenty of other small minded gamers on this forum will cry bloody murder at the idea of a console, but who cares about small men with a chip on their shoulder?

I've checked and it only has DVI and VGA along with a 3.5mm jack. It might be possible with an HDMI>DVI adapter and outputting sound through a 3.5mm cable, but it would be bothersome to switch the cables each time you want to switch between your PC and the PS3, especially if you want to use both.

It depends. Why do you want one? The PS3 has some great exclusives but that's about it. I guess if you can get it it cheap enough it might be worth it. As for connecting it to a monitor yes it can be done with adapters. Just remember that you need to get the sound somehow to. So you will need a DVI switch and a HDMI to DVI + audio adapter. Also keep in mind thees adapters are not free and will add to the cost of getting the PS3 up and running on a monitor.

I say go for it. never lock yourself down on one system. now you can play PC games with all their glory (your gaming pc is awesome already) and ps3 exclusives as well. JRPG's = pr0n
