Each town had the same NPC's and the same dice/fighting mini games and the taverns and repetitive quests got to be too boring. The storyline was also quite boring even though I really like Gearalt as he reminded me a lot of Snake from MGS.
Most of these PC games just don't pull me in story wise or gameplay wise anymore. The last really good PC game that I played was Bioshock 1 as it did everything right, really good storyline and story telling, very, very, unique and good RPG/FPS gameplay. I have yet to play a single player game that topped Bioshock 1 on the PC and before that game Portal 1 was a game that could not be topped and the same for HL2 EP 2.
The PC is best for RTS and multiplayer games I admit that. I've been having a blast with CoH on PC since the THQ humble bundle pack was released a few days ago and I was a big fan of SC2 up until about August. I'm looking forward to playing XCOM on the PS3 though as I heard they got it right on the consoles and PC aswell bu tI really, really loved the MGS series and a lot of the PS2 games such as ICO, Shadow of The Colossus, and other games that you will never find on the PC. Red Dead Redemption is another one of those console exclusives that is amazing yet not on the PC's. Same for The Last of Us, that game looks absolutely amazing.
I'll continue to stick to my PC for RTS and multiplayer games but the PS3 will be my choice for epic single player games. I think that each console has it's own strengths/weaknesses when it comes to the games available to it.

Yeah The Witcher and The Witcher 2 are in totally different leagues. Most people don't even bother playing the first one, for the reasons you said but more importantly due to the awful gameplay. All of this is totally different and so much better in the second one though, so I definitely recommend it. It's certainly true that each platform has its strengths/weaknesses when it comes to exclusive games available, just don't try to miss out and keep your eyes open. PC and PS3 are great choices for great SP titles, and the Wii has some great ones too. XBOX 360 hardly has any.

I agree with you completely, I'll pick up The Witcher 2 when/if it goes on sell during the winter sales.
