D805 and ASUS P5LD2-VM

Thread Starter
I have this combo and it is apparent I can't get it over 150 FSB With Crucial Rendition DDR2-667 (4-4-4-8). I've tried everything. I suspect Intel GMA can't handle it and I won't have PCIe GeForce 7300GS to try again until next week. It is stable at 150 (2.986 Mhz), but won;t go a single point above that. Refuses, even if I raise voltage (tried to 1.4), or change DRAM timing or anything.
I guess either this mobo sucks at overclocking or my used ebay 805 was already abused. I could be stuck at 150 until I get a new mobo or cpu, that sucks. At least the board can take a D960.
Anyone have any ideas or I am generally snafu'd?
Thanks.

what does it do does it BSOD or does it just freeze??? Make sure ur using a locked SATA port and make sure u lock ur pci-e frequencies and ur pci frequencies. Maybe try a lower divider on the ram. If none of those work i would say its the mobo. Most D805 easily break 3.0 no voltage needed.

Well the Asus's generally use nVidia chipsets which are reknowned to be crappy for Intel overclocking. Sorry.

Its the board, doubt its the cpu. Boards with integrated video are generally not good overclockers. If you had the 945P instead of the 945G you would probably get better results.

Thanks for the replies. Leprechaun, I'll try some of those suggestions. Dman, I thought you might be on to something which is why I'll try again after disabling on board and using Geforce 7300 next week. And I do agree, it seems everyone can get their 805 pumped up easily...except me. I am not giving up...for now, and when I do, it'll be a new mobo likely.
Adam, Asus has many boards not based on Nvidia, and many that are.

it is a lock up at boot time, no BSOD...don;t even get that far.

hmmm. Sounds like the board. What kind of cooling do u have. Please fill in ur specs in user cp so that we know the entire setup. This could be a heat issue or an issue of too little voltage, but dont bump the voltage up unless ur getting good temps.

Yup, dont expect much from Value boards, notice the VM part?? That usualy stands for Value model or el cheapo. Everyone has to start somewhere so when you get a new board (965 -975x) expect much much better results.

Thanks for input guys. I installed my geforce 7300GS PCIe and no chnage. I am now convinced the board is a lousy overclocker. Will go out and get a new board as soon as i can afford it. EOT
